Here is one question that no one at the county can answer for me. We live in a tiny house with no basement in a subdivision, and our friends live in a three-story home right on a lake, but our taxes are exactly the same amount. Can anybody please explain that to me?
Our roads and bridges have been neglected. Now the Illinois Economic Policy Institute is pushing an increase in the gasoline tax to 85 cents to fund road and bridge construction. What happened to all the toll road money that was collected? It seems like we’ve never seen a dime of that money go toward maintaining and repairing the Illinois Tollway. Now people want us to pay more. Maybe they should have toll roads to and from the homes of politicians who vote for these tax increases so they can pay their fair share.
I thought drugs were against the law. It may be illegal, but it seems you can go ahead and smoke and snort anything you want at some of these public golf courses. I smell reefer when I’m out hitting the links. The bar’s full of it. The golf course is full of it. I went golfing at a local course with my kid, and it looked like everybody was smoking marijuana. You could smell it from hole to hole. How messed up is that?
So many have taken Anthony Rizzo’s “wants shorter season” out of context and were outraged. I’d bet at least 90 percent of the major league players feel the same. The real reasons are owners’ and television operators’ greed. The longer the season, the more money they make. Rizzo suggested doubleheaders. It’ll never happen unless the owners and TV stations can convince spectators and advertisers to pay them double.
