City sets record: 100 degrees at DIA

Triple-digit heat scorched Denver on Saturday, and another day of record-breaking temperatures is expected today, according to the National Weather Service.

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, temperatures had reached 100 degrees at Denver International Airport, breaking the city’s previous July 25 record of 99 degrees, according to the weather service.

Temperatures are expected to peak around 101 degrees in Denver today, according to weather service forecasters. That would break the city’s July 26 record of 100 degrees, set in 1910, according to weather service records.

The hottest July temperature on record for Denver is 105 degrees, which the city hit on July 20, 2005, according to the weather service. That’s also the hottest temperature ever recorded in the city.

A heat advisory will be in effect for Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties from from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, according to the weather service.

Highs from 99 to 103 degrees are forecast across the Denver area and near Boulder, Fort Collins and Greeley, forecasters wrote in their advisory.

Overnight temperatures also will be warm, with expected lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s, forecasters said.

Body found in tunnel under I-25 after fire

Adams County firefighters discovered a body in a tunnel under Interstate 25 while responding to a fire Saturday morning, according to the fire department.

Firefighters responded to reports of an illegal burn under a bridge at 70th Avenue and I-25 shortly before 6:30 a.m. Saturday, according to Adams County Fire Rescue.

When they arrived, firefighters saw smoke coming out of a tunnel underneath the bridge, fire officials said.

A body was found inside the tunnel.

Information about the cause of the fire and the victim’s death was not immediately available Saturday.

Pedestrian killed in Denver crash

A pedestrian was fatally struck on Interstate 25 in Denver early Saturday after exiting a stalled vehicle, police said.

The Denver Police Department first posted about the crash on northbound I-25 near Auraria Parkway at 5:03 a.m.

Investigators believe the victim exited a stalled vehicle and was hit by oncoming traffic, police said. The pedestrian, who will be identified by the Denver medical examiner’s office, died at the scene, police said.

Additional information about the crash was not immediately available Saturday.

Police arrest man on suspicion of murder

Denver police arrested a man suspected in a fatal shooting last Sunday morning, the department announced Friday.

Jacob Anglon, 29, is suspected of shooting two men in the 1100 block of North Columbine Street. One of the gunshot victims died later.

Anglon was arrested Wednesday and is being investigated for first-degree murder and attempted murder.

The district attorney’s office will decide what charges to file.

The Denver medical examiner’s office will identify the victim.

Police arrest driver after fatal crash

Denver police arrested the driver in a fatal crash Friday after his passenger died.

Andres Martinez, 32, is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide, police announced on social media. He was driving when his car crashed early Friday near East Alameda Avenue and East Fairmount Drive near Fairmount Cemetery. His vehicle was the only one involved in the crash.

The district attorney’s office will decide any charges. Police have not provided any details about the passenger, who will be identified by the Denver medical examiner’s office.

Berthoud-based Ursa Major to expand

Ursa Major Technologies Inc., a Berthoud-headquartered missile- and rocket-propulsion company, has chosen its home state for a major expansion effort.

The company late last year was offered a state incentives package that could be worth more than $35 million aimed at enticing it to expand operations in the state. Ursa Major chose the Denver area, although specific sites have yet to be revealed, for its expansion, Colorado Office of Economic Development staffers told members of the Colorado Economic Development Commission on Thursday morning.

Ursa Major, which was founded in 2015 and, according to its website, “delivers flight-proven propulsion systems for hypersonics, solid rocket motors and space mobility,” has been a rocketship of growth in recent years, closing a $100 million Series E fundraising round in November 2025 and booking more than $100 million in government and commercial contracts with the Department of Defense, Air Force Research Laboratory, Stratolaunch and BAE Systems.

In fact Ursa Major announced this month it has a new $10 million deal with the Navy “to build a faster, more resilient, and more innovative solid rocket motor supply base.”
