Proctor scores 16 to lead No. 2 Duke to 16th straight win
SYRACUSE, N.Y. >> Tyrese Proctor scored 16 points to lead five Duke players in double figures and the No. 2 Blue Devils extended the longest winning streak in the nation to 16 games with an 83-54 win over Syracuse on Wednesday night.
Kon Knueppel had 12 for Duke (20-2, 12-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), Cooper Flagg scored 11, and Sion James and Isaiah Evans had 10 points each.
Jyare Davis and J.J. Starling had 12 points each to lead the Orange (10-13, 4-8), who have lost four of their last five games. Naheem McLeod had 10 points.
No. 4 Tennessee 85, No. 15 Missouri 81>> Zakai Zeigler and Igor Milicic returned to Tennessee’s lineup to each score 21 points in the No. 4 Volunteers’ 85-81 victory over No. 15 Missouri.
Zeigler also had eight assists, and Milicic added 10 rebounds. They both sat out Saturday in a victory over Florida — Zeigler because of a knee injury, and Milicic with an illness.
Felix Okpara scored 12 points for the Volunteers (19-4, 6-4 Southeastern Conference). They have played five consecutive top-15 opponents, going 3-2.
Tamar Bates led Missouri (17-5, 6-3) with 22 points. Tony Perkins added 16, and Caleb Grill had 11.
No. 17 Memphis 83, Tulsa 71>>PJ Haggerty scored 23 points and No. 17 Memphis held onto the American Athletic Conference lead, with the Tigers shooting 57% in an 83-71 victory over Tulsa.
Dain Dainja added 21 points, six rebounds and four blocks, and Tyrese Hunter had 11 points for Memphis (19-4, 9-1 ). The Tigers won their sixth straight and held onto first place in the conference. Haggerty was 10 of 16 from the floor and Dainja was 10 of 14.
Tyshawn Archie scored 17 points for Tulsa (9-14, 3-7).
Rutgers 82, No. 23 Illinois 73>> Dylan Harper returned to score 28 points, fellow freshman Ace Bailey added 18 points and 11 rebounds and Rutgers beat No. 23 Illinois 82-73.
Harper made 11 of 12 frees throws and had six rebounds and five assists after missing a 66-63 home loss to Michigan on Saturday because of a sprained ankle.
Jeremiah Williams scored 13 points to help Rutgers (12-11, 5-7 Big Ten) beat a ranked team for the first time since last February against then-No. 9 Wisconsin. The Scarlet Knights have won two of three.
Will Riley led Illinois (15-8, 7-6) with 20 points, and Ben Humrichous had 14. The Illini have lost four of six.
No. 24 Michigan 80, Oregon 76>> Will Tschetter had a season-high 17 points, Danny Wolf scored 10 of his 15 points in the first half and Vladislav Goldin had nine of his 15 after halftime to help No. 24 Michigan hold off Oregon 80-76.
The Wolverines (17-5, 9-2 Big Ten) have won three straight to pull into a second-place tie with No. 9 Michigan State behind No. 7 Purdue in the conference standings. The Ducks (16-7, 5-7) have lost four in a row for the first time since the 2013-2014 season.
WOMEN
No. 7 USC women bounce back , defeat Wisconsin 86-64
MADISON, Wis. >> Kiki Iriafen scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack as No. 7 Southern California bounced back from a rare loss and never trailed in an 86-64 victory over Wisconsin on Wednesday.
USC (20-2, 10-1 Big Ten) was finishing a two-game trip after its 15-game winning streak ended Sunday with a 76-69 loss at Iowa.
Wisconsin (11-12, 2-10) lost for the 10th time in 11 games to drop below .500 for the first time this season.
USC’s JuJu Watkins, who entered the night averaging 24.7 points to rank third in Division I, had a season-low 14 points in 26 minutes.
No. 12 Kansas State 59, No. 9 TCU 50>> Serena Sundell scored a season-high 27 points, Jaelyn Glenn had 14 and No. 12 Kansas State outlasted No. 9 TCU 59-50 to take sole possession of first place in the Big 12 in a matchup of the conference leaders.
Sundell scored 15 of those 27 points in the third quarter after Kansas State (22-2, 10-1 Big 12) trailed by six at halftime.
No. 18 West Virginia 76, Kansas 43>> Sydney Shaw had 13 of her career-high 22 points in the first quarter and No. 18 West Virginia rolled to a 76-43 win over Kansas.
The Mountaineers held the Jayhawks scoreless for more than seven minutes to start the game and were never threatened. Shaw opened the game with a 3-pointer, then hit three free throws after being fouled on a 3-pointer and added seven more points for 13 of the first 15 points.
