SAN MATEO COUNTY >> A two-vehicle collision killed two people and seriously injured a third Tuesday night on Highway 1 at Bean Hollow State Beach in San Mateo County, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash was reported about 6:39 p.m. on Highway 1 about 2 miles southwest of Pescadero. According to the CHP, a Subaru SUV and a Tesla collided after one of the vehicles crossed over double-yellow lines. Investigators did not immediately determine which vehicle may have initated the collision.

Both vehicles traveled down an embankment after the impact and into a body of water on the east side of Highway 1. The Tesla was completely submerged, CHP Officer Art Montiel said and the Subaru was partially submerged.

Montiel said both drivers were killed in the crash.

The Tesla driver was identified as 29-year-old Patricio Cabrera Jr. of San Francisco. The Subaru driver was identified as James Willis, 66, of Davenport.

Montiel said a third victim, a 62-year-old Davenport woman who was a passenger in the Subaru, was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center in critical condition.

The CHP said it was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
