


Vitek Vanecek stopped all 21 shots he faced in his Florida debut and the host Panthers beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-0 on Saturday night.
A.J. Greer, Carter Verhaeghe, Anton Lundell and Sam Bennett all scored as the Panthers won their sixth-straight game. Vanecek, acquired from the Sharks on Wednesday, got his first shutout of the season and 10th of his career.
BRUINS 4, LIGHTNING 0 >> Cole Koepke had a career-high two goals to lead visiting Boston over Tampa Bay, one day after being active sellers at the NHL trade deadline. Koepke scored twice against his former team, Mark Kastelic and Nikita Zadorov also had goals. All three players are in their first season with the new-look Bruins.
Boston’s boldest move was dealing captain Brad Marchand, the last remaining player from its 2011 Stanley Cup championship team, to the Florida Panthers.
AVALANCHE 7, MAPLE LEAFS 4 >> Valeri Nichushkin completed a hat trick with an empty-net score after Nathan MacKinnon knocked in the go-ahead goal with 4:15 remaining and host Colorado rallied from two goals down to beat Toronto Maple.
Mitch Marner and John Tavares each had two goals for the Maple Leafs.
SENATORS 4, RANGERS 3, OT >> Brady Tkachuk capped a two-goal effort with the game-winning marker 33 seconds into overtime as host Ottawa beat New York.
With the win, the Senators (32-25-5) took over the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
STARS GIVE JOHNSTON $42M EXTENSION >> The Dallas Stars signed 21-year-old center Wyatt Johnston to a $42 million, five-year contract extension.
Johnston’s deal on Friday was overshadowed by the Stars getting Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes and signing him to a $96 million, eight-year contract extension.
