Garage Rods recently hosted its fifth Hot Rods for a Cure car show, held at the Cooper Regional History Museum in Upland in conjunction with the Upland Farmers Market.

This year’s show raised nearly $14,000 for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, according to an email from Jimmie Herrick, one of the event organizers.

The annual event is held in memory of Herrick’s friend Laura Sanders, who fought breast cancer for many years and helped raise awareness and funds.

Sanders’ family and friends have continued the event, which draws hundreds of people from across California, according to Herrick. There were also cars and donations from Utah, Texas and Arizona at this year’s event, and many cancer survivors attended.

The show was open to hot rods, muscle cars, rat rods, classics, stock, special interest vehicles, choppers, motorcycles, baggers and originals, and it included a beer and wine garden, live music, barbecue and raffles.

Sponsors, in addition to Garage Rods and Upland Farmers Market, included T.A. Danna Construction, Team Banners 4 U, Houston Floors, JNL Designs, Blue Hwy, Stewart Title, Jim Bone’s BBQ, Upland Police Department, Godspeed, Pro-Five Brewing Co., Suicide Kings, Cadillac Kings and Hub Cap Annie & Wheel.

Vendors included Bruster’s Ice Cream, Upland; Solecita Gems; and Jim Bone’s BBQ.

Next year’s Hot Rods for a Cure show is planned for Oct. 11.

With this event and others, Herrick has raised more than $360,000 for the American Cancer Society since 2013, according to her email.
