The human remains found stuffed in a suitcase floating off Manhattan in the East River consisted of a man’s headless dismembered torso, police said Thursday.

The suitcase was spotted drifting in the waters near Governors Island by workers on a NY Waterway ferry at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, cops said.

Crew members tried to pull the bag onto the ferry, but it was too heavy and they called 911.

Members of the NYPD harbor unit recovered the case and brought it to Pier 16 on South St. near John St. in the Financial District. When they unzipped it, they discovered a sleeping bag containing the torso of an adult man with no head or limbs.

The city medical examiner will help to identify the remains and determine the cause of death, officials said.
