Minnesota Vikings outside linebacker Dallas Turner was targeted in an alleged financial fraud scheme that cost him about $240,000, according to local authorities.
Sgt. Rich Evans confirmed Thursday that the Eagan police department was actively investigating the case, working toward criminal charges with multiple suspects identified. Only about $2,500 has been recovered so far, Evans said.
According to the search warrant affidavit obtained and first reported by the Minnesota Star Tribune, Turner and his attorney contacted police in April. He said he received a call in February from an individual impersonating a banker who advised him to transfer money to two different businesses in order to prevent a theft attempt, the affidavit read. Turner later suspected the call was a scam after conferring with a family member.
Turner was drafted in the first round out of Alabama last year by the Vikings with the 17th overall pick. He was a backup edge rusher and had three sacks in 16 games.
NFLPA appealing ruling in collusion case
The NFL Players Association will appeal an arbitrator’s ruling regarding collusion by owners over quarterback salaries, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The person, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because it’s a legal matter, said the union has been having ongoing discussions with its executive council about the matter. There’s no timeline for a decision that’ll be made by a standing appeals panel made up of three people.
On Jan. 14, arbitrator Christopher Droney ruled there wasn’t sufficient evidence of collusion by owners in contract negotiations with quarterbacks after the Cleveland Browns gave QB Deshaun Watson a record $230 million fully guaranteed contract.

Stars trade Dumba to Penguins in D swap
The Stars traded Matt Dumba to Pittsburgh in a swap of defensemen Thursday, with Dallas getting Vladislav Kolyachonok while sending a 2028 second-round pick to the Penguins.
Dumba never had an impact after signing a $7.5 million, two-year contract in free agency last year. He was a healthy scratch for all 18 playoff games as the Stars lost in the Western Conference final for the third consecutive year.
The 30-year-old Dumba had one goal and nine assists in 63 games during the regular season. It was the fewest goals for Dumba since scoring one in 13 games as a rookie with Minnesota in 2013-14.
Pittsburgh will be his fourth team in three seasons after he spent the first 10 years of his career with the Wild.
Kolyachonok played for the Penguins and Utah last season, recording seven points (two goals) in 35 games.

The 24-year-old Thrun had two goals and 10 assists in 62 games for the Sharks last season. He has five goals and 20 assists in 119 NHL games, all with San Jose.

The committees for men’s and women’s Division I basketball met this week to discuss possible expansion of the March Madness tournaments, but made no immediate decisions or recommendations.
