A Harvey man has been charged with forcing a minor he brought across state lines into Wisconsin to engage in prostitution, federal authorities announced Wednesday.

Deronarte Norwood, 30, pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon during an arraignment in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Rowland in Chicago, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois. He is charged with sex trafficking and knowingly transporting a minor to engage in prostitution.

In May 2015, Norwood brought the minor to Wisconsin from Illinois for the purpose of engaging in sex for money, authorities said.

If convicted, Norwood faces a maximum sentence of life in prison, authorities said.

Norwood was arrested Tuesday night in Waukegan. He is being held in custody until a detention hearing on Oct. 24.
