A former Bank of Marin branch in the Cove Shopping Center in Tiburon is now home to Mog Asu Wine Bar, a thoughtfully designed neighborhood destination from San Rafael husband-and-wife team Fedric D’Costa and Emily Lund.

The name comes from Konkani, the language of D’Costa’s native Goa, and means “let there be love.” It’s a fitting reflection of their intention to create a gathering place where people come together over fine wine and shared plates.

The curated list focuses primarily on producers in France, Spain, Portugal, Greece and Italy, with additional offerings from South America, Australia, New Zealand, California and Oregon.

Nearly 30 wines are poured by the glass, including ports, vermouth and a fermented agave wine shot reminiscent of tequila. These will rotate every few months.

By the bottle, more than 60 labels span Old and New World winemaking, ranging from classic Bordeaux, Barolo and Priorat to Sonoma Chardonnay and Argentinian Malbec. The menu includes whites, reds, champagnes and reserves, with a focus on distinctive, terroir-driven wines across both emerging and established regions. The collection will continue to evolve as new discoveries are added.

Mog Asu is the first establishment to offer Fairfax Brewing Co.’s namesake beer outside its Fairfax-based brewery, according to D’Costa. Fort Point Beer Co., Original Pattern Brewing Co., Golden State Cider and Belgian options are also on the list.

A range of low- and no-alcohol selections rounds out the beverage choices, from Luminara Chardonnay and Prima Pavé Grand Cuvée to mocktail specials like a house-made cranberry lime rickey and cucumber basil soda.

Shareable plates are designed for easy pairing. Nibble on D’Costa’s pistachios roasted with orange peel, thyme and peppercorn, or try dips like warm goat cheese with honey and olives or smoked salmon tzatziki served with potato chips, celery and radish. Other savory options include two charcuterie boards, antipasto skewers and three salads: the butter lettuce; apple and white cheddar; and another with white beans, cherry tomatoes, jalapeño and a garlic-lime dressing.

Desserts are made by Hanna Noel of San Rafael-based Seasonal Kneads Catered and include a trio of cookies (chocolate chip olive oil with almonds, orange-cardamom shortbread and coconut-lime macaroon) and petit fours (pavlova with lemon curd, brown butter rye brownie and miso caramel tartlet).

The stylish, unfussy interior pairs rich colors with layered textures for a polished yet relaxed setting. Deep green wainscoting and intricate art deco wallpaper are offset by antique gold arched mirrors. Statement chandeliers with sculptural glass globes descend from soaring ceilings with exposed beams. A caramel leather banquette stretches along one wall and is lined with dark wood tables and sleek black chairs.

At the four-stool bar fronted by emerald tiles, a geometric mirrored backsplash creates a warm shimmer behind shelves stocked with bottles and stemware. A glass-enclosed, temperature-controlled floor-to-ceiling wine case provides a focal point. Two televisions show worldwide soccer matches during the day and local sports games on mute in the evenings.

For smaller groups seeking a bit of privacy, a gauzy curtain can be drawn to section off part of the room. As the weather warms, wine barrel bistro tables will be added in front.

The owners bring a mix of hospitality and business experience to their new venture. D’Costa, a level one sommelier and Culinary Institute of America graduate, spent years working on cruise ships before a 15-year run at Cavallo Point in Sausalito, where he became a familiar presence behind the bar. Lund previously owned a medical supply company in San Francisco. After selling it, the two of them set out to create something that expresses their dedication to thoughtful service and community connection.
