Tania Fernandes Anderson’s guilty plea to fraud and theft in a bathroom kickback scheme should send her to prison and the unemployment line — instead she continues to pocket her $120,000 taxpayer funded salary by desperately clinging to her city council seat.

Anderson pleaded guilty Monday to stealing $7,000 in public money and she has promised to resign.

We’re still waiting. She told reporters outside the courthouse she’s going to hang on until late June after the city budget is voted on.

That’s almost two more months of collecting a paycheck funded by the public. And she still refuses to admit fault.

“Her constituents deserve better than this,” U.S. Attorney Leah B. Foley said. “They deserve a city representative who respects the role of public service and does not use the power and position to line her own pockets. Her guilty plea says what she refuses to admit in her media interviews: she broke the law, lied to the public, and used her office for her own personal gain. Ms. Fernandes Anderson leaves a legacy not of a selfless trailblazer, but one of fraud, greed and deceit.”

Back in April, Anderson, 46, a far left Democrat and the first Muslim elected councilor, said she would quit after agreeing to a plea deal with the feds that could keep her in prison for just a year.

She paid a staffer who is related to her a big bonus and then pocketed more than half of that by texting her to meet her in the bathroom to make the transaction.

It was literally dirty money..

“I will be resigning, it is the right thing to do, in coming days, I will evaluate transition plans and timeline with the District 7 Advisory Council,” she said back then. “I will do everything possible to make an orderly exit to ensure my constituents’ needs are met.”

Transition plans?

The only transition she should make is the one from freedom to a locked prison cell.

Instead, she continues to embarrass herself and her Roxbury seat by holding on to her fat paycheck because no doubt the feds are making her pay back $13,000.

And she pretends this is the right thing to do for her constituents? Leaving them with a disgraced public representative to do what? Fix the potholes? Represent them in city meetings?

Because of the plea, City Council President Ruthzee Louijeunel and Mayor Michelle Wu should try to force Anderson out by applying public pressure on her every single day.

She should not be collecting a single day’s pay while awaiting sentencing in late July.

Her constituents are better off having no councilor represent them than a dirty one. She still has a full staff that can take calls and emails and make sure her district is well represented.

It’s a running joke in City Hall that most city councilors do nothing during the day anyway, including not showing up for hearings. They only have to show up once a week for a council meeting and may hold down a second job.

Every day that Anderson stays on the job is another day where her seat is tainted. She should not be voting on anything — let alone an important city budget.

From her comments on Monday, it’s clear she still doesn’t get it, going on about God and racism and how other councilors were “pushed” to call for her resignation..

“Maybe you guys wouldn’t have been so kind to Councilor Louijeune if she didn’t say anything, right, because she is Black, because she is the Council president,” Anderson said.. “Maybe you wouldn’t have been so kind. You would have pushed her, or said she wasn’t a good leader, or something like that. You know how the world is harsher.”

Never mind the maybes, one thing is certain: Fernandes Anderson needs to resign.
