


Ryan Simon’s home run highlighted a big day for Tam High’s bats during Saturday’s 7-3 road win over Alameda in a non-league baseball matchup.
Simon drove in four runs and scored another during a 3-for-4 outing that included a home run and a double. Junior Timo Ural added a pair of doubles and scored twice for the Red-tailed Hawks (6-2), who had 12 hits against the Hornets (4-2). Tam seniors Maxwell Fiek and Tito Fierstein each had two base hits.
Boys track and field
Tam High senior Nate Wanger set a personal best to win the 400 meter event with a time of 49.82 seconds at the Eddie Hart Invitational in Pittsburg on Saturday.
Redwood senior Antonio Bayon took second in the discus with a personal-best mark of 150 feet, 2 inches, just six inches off the winning distance. Bayon was also fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.42).
Bayon tied for second place in the pole vault (15 feet). Tam’s William Freas placed fourth (14’6”), with teammate Vincent Porzio sixth (10 feet).
San Marin junior Jack Golan finished third in the long jump (20’10”), with Redwood senior Nate Beltran fourth (20’9”).
• Archie Williams’ Will Mulliken placed fourth in the mile at the Saint Francis Mile in Mountain View on Saturday, clocking in at 4 minutes, 23.33 seconds.
• Redwood High senior Holden Turner placed seventh in the shot put at 41 feet, 4.5 inches.
Girls track and field
Redwood sophomore Annalise Horn turned in two podium finishes at the Eddie Hart Invitational in Pittsburg on Saturday.
Horn easily outdistanced the field to win the long jump. Horn turned in a mark of 17 feet, 11 inches. She also placed second in the triple jump (35’11”).
San Marin High’s Sicily Grasso and Redwood sophomore Julia Bayon tied for sixth place in the 100 meter (12.60).
Tam senior Ayla Koch-Bergen placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 102 feet, 11 inches. Bergen also placed seventh in the shot put (31’2.5”).
• Archie Williams’ Ani Stieg claimed second with a record-breaking effort in the mile at the Saint Francis Mile in Mountain View on Saturday. Stieg’s time of 4 minutes, 58.3 seconds breaks Katy Dykstra’s school record set in 1982.
• Redwood junior Daika Dhaiti took second place in a tiebreaker in the jump at Saturday’s Santa Rosa Field Event Jamboree. Dhaiti cleared the bar at 4 feet, 10 inches.
• San Rafael resident Ellie McCuskey-Hay ran a blistering time of 11.54 seconds in the 100 meters at the St. Francis Invitational on Saturday. That time ranks second in California so far this season.
Girls swimming
Holly Hovey was victorious in the 50 free and the 100 free to lead Archie Williams to a 92-75 victory against Redwood on Friday. Caroline McFerron (200 free), Taylor Fahy (100 breast), and Ella Kastner (100 fly) also won races for the Peregrine Falcons. Annabelle Kilgore (200 IM), Avery Gunst (500 free), and Ahana Panday (100 back) were winners for Redwood
Boys swimming
Victor Krilanovich (200 free, 50 free) and Josh Dixon (200 IM, 100 back) were double winners as Archie Williams posted a 108-57 win against Redwood on Friday. Nolan Anderon (100 free) and Henry Manning (100 breast) won races for Archie Williams while Oliver Rogers (500 free) and Sawyer Goldberg (100 breast) won for Redwood.
Prep softball
Redwood scored four times in the top of the seventh to pull out a 4-3 win against Benicia on Saturday. Redwood lost to Vintage 2-1 earlier in the day. Elle McElreath had an RBI double to get Redwood on the board then Stella Belluomini hit a two-run single to put the Giants up 3-2. Kait Christensen scored on a wild pitch for Redwood’s fourth run.
Boys volleyball
Seth Cabrera-Ampie had 18 assists, eight aces, and three kills to lead Tam (6-3, 5-0) past San Rafael (0-6, 0-6) in three sets — 25-15, 25-17, 25-10. Tam also defeated Novato and Archie Williams this week.
• Novato (5-7) picked up a 14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 15-9 victory in a non-league game against San Marin on Thursday.
Boys lacrosse
Marin Catholic rolled to a 19-0 victory over Branson on Saturday, the Wildcats’ second win in as many days. Marin Catholic (5-1, 3-0 MCAL) beat Terra Linda 18-3 on Friday.
• Tam High’s four-goal outburst couldn’t sustain the Red-tailed Hawks (3-3) during Saturday’s 18-8 non-league loss to Monte Vista (5-0).
• A fourth-quarter rally came up short for Redwood (3-3) in Friday’s 9-7 loss to Saint Francis in a non-league matchup.
• Archie Williams earned a 5-4 road victory over Lowell on Friday as the Peregrine Falcons (2-4-1) broke a three-game skid.
Girls lacrosse
Tamalpais (4-2-1) wrapped up its pre-MCAL schedule with a 15-4 win over Monte Vista of Danville on Friday night. The Red-tailed Hawks went on an eight-goal run in the third quarter to secure the victory.
Hawks sophomore Ellie McEvilley led Tam (4-2-1) with four goals and two assists, followed by UC Davis commit Quinlin Dayton with three goals and two assists, and Northwestern commit Rowie Scobie with three goals. Brooklyn Hatch and Tessa Cohen chipped in with two goals apiece, and Sarah Cormier had one goal. Senior goalie Jamie Lemberg had four saves.
Monte Vista defeated San Marin 8-7 on Tuesday. San Marin hosts Tamalpais on Wednesday to kick off MCAL play.
Branson earned a 17-7 victory over Casa Grande on Saturday to stretch the Bulls’ string to four wins to start the season.
• Redwood fell 14-7 to St. Ignatius on Saturday, ending the Giants’ five game win streak.
• Marin Catholic (3-2, 1-0 MCAL) raced to a 15-6 victory over Terra Linda on Friday. Evie Noyes scored three goals for the Trojans (2-3-1, 0-1).
Women’s basketball
Lehigh, with sophomore guard Gracyn Lovette, will take on Army for the Patriot League championship on Sunday in Bethlehem, Penn. Lovette, a Marin Catholic grad, hit a 3-pointer and grabbed five rebounds for the Mountain Hawks (26-6, 15-3 Patriot) in Thursday’s 65-44 semifinal win over Holy Cross.
• Branson School grad Hannah Golan scored seven points in 16 minutes during Point Loma’s first-round playoff loss to Central Washington on Friday. The Sea Lions, the PacWest champions, were making their first appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament.
