John Camden scored a season-high 26 points and little-used Dhiaukuei Manyiel Dut had a critical block and followed that with his only basket of the game to send California to an 86-85 win over Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. on Saturday.

Justin Pippen added 17 points and eight assists. Chris Bell had 16 and Dai Dai Ames 14 for the Golden Bears (16-6, 4-5 ACC).

Malik Reneau scored 20 of his 24 points in the second half for the Hurricanes (17-5, 6-3).

The 7-foot Manyiel Dut had played a total of 26 minutes in seven games this season but was on the floor in crunch time after Cal’s other big men fouled out. He blocked Udeh’s layup and the ball, after a review reversal, went to Cal with 1:12 remaining. Fifteen seconds later he scored the game’s final points on a follow.

Donaldson then had his layup rim out but Nolan Dorsey missed two free throws to give the Hurricanes a final chance. Henderson took the ball to the hoop but missed as time expired.

Chauncey Wiggins, Lajae Jones and Robert McCray V combined to score 60 points as Florida State held off Stanford 88-80 in the first meeting between the two sides in Tallahassee.

Wiggins scored a team-high 23 points, including 16 in the second half, for the Seminoles (10-12, 3-6 Atlantic Coast Conference). McCray V added 19 points, seven assists and two steals. Jones finished with 18 and five rebounds, scoring 13 in the first half.

Stanford freshman Ebuka Okorie started slow for the Cardinal (14-8, 3-6), scoring three in the first half on 1 of 4 shooting. He finished with 26 points after a 23-point second half in which he went 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Benny Gealer added 12 points, AJ Rohosy 11, and Donavin Young 10. Oskar Giltay had nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals.

WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

Elli Guiney’s layup with 2.7 seconds left lifted Pepperdine (14-9, 5-6 Mountain West) to a 74-72 victory against Santa Clara (18-6, 8-3).

The Broncos’ Ashley Hawkins — who scored a game-high 21 points — hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 72-all with 23 seconds left, setting up the Waves’ winning basket at the Leavey Center.

Santa Clara’s Maia Jones, who had 20 points, missed a long buzzer-beater

Boise State 96, San Jose State 62: The Spartans (3-19) fell behind 39-14 after the first quarter and never recovered during a lopsided road loss to Boise State (17-5).

San Jose State got a team-high 20 points from Amira Brown. Tatum Thompson scored a game-high 28 points for the Broncos.

GOLF

Justin Rose delivered a performance at Torrey Pines that Tiger Woods could appreciate, stretching his lead to as many as eight shots until a few late mistakes led to a 4-under 68 for a six-stroke lead in the Farmers Insurance Open.

Rose, who won at Torrey in 2019, started the third round with a four-shot lead and quickly pulled away.

Rose was at 21-under 195. It was the second-largest 54-hole lead at the tournament behind the eight-shot lead Woods had in 2008. Woods practically owned the public course along the Pacific Bluff with eight professional wins, including the U.S. Open.

Brooks Koepka, in his return to the PGA Tour from Saudi-funded LIV Golf, played a solid round except for the short putts. He turned a 3-foot par putt into a double bogey on the par-3 11th, and had a 3-foot birdie putt into a bogey on the par-5 ninth, his final hole that led to a 73.

Joel Dahmen finished strong for a 68 and was in second place.

Nelly Korda played her best golf in the worst of the conditions with an 8-under 64 in the frigid, blustery conditions that eventually led to play being suspended for the day in the season-opening Tournament of Champions in Orlando, Fla.

Korda had the best score of the week at Lake Nona, where the temperatures felt like they were in the 40s with a steady 20 mph wind and gusts nearly twice that strong.

Korda was at 13-under 203, six shots ahead of Brooke Henderson among those who finished. Henderson shot 66.

Amy Yang was at 10 under with two holes to play. Lydia Ko fell back with a double bogey and bogey on the back nine and was at 8 under through 16 holes.
