Freshman guard Isabella Alvarez turned in another stellar outing, and the Watsonville High girls basketball team trounced host North Salinas 57-17 on Friday to extend their hot start.
Alvarez, who entered the contest averaging a team leading 12.5 points per game, had 24 points, six assists, and four steals for the Wildcatz (7-1), who are coached by Zach Cook.
Junior guard Stephanie Martinez had 10 points and nine steals for Watsonville, and senior center Fernanda Lazo had nine points, six rebounds and four blocks.
The Vikings (1-4) are coached by Marcus Northcutt, the former Wildcatz’s athletics director and boys basketball coach.
The Wildcatz play at North Monterey County (5-0) in Castroville on Tuesday at 7 p.m. After that, they’ll have a 10-day break before competing in the West Coast Jamboree, held at multiple locations in the East Bay on Dec. 27, 28 and 30.
Sacred Heart Prep 45, Scotts Valley 33 >> Junior guard Sammy Rebbert scored six of her team-high 10 points on free throws in the second half, but the Falcons lost in the The King’s Academy Tournament semifinals on Friday.
Senior guard/center Abigail Shi scored eight points for the Falcons (5-1), who suffered their first loss. Junior guard Brooklyn Williams scored all seven of her points in the first half.
Junior Ryleigh Longaker scored 16 points for the Gators (3-1), and freshman teammate Jocelyn Jones scored 10 points.
Scotts Valley faces Prospect (2-2) for third place on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Monte Vista Christian 35, Pacific Collegiate 30 >> Senior guard/forward Sophia Cortes scored a game-high 19 points, and the Mustangs won their nonleague game Friday.
Freshman guard Mia Malaspina scored nine points for the Mustangs (3-5).
Kat Buckley led PCS (4-3) with 13 points and Julia Guth added nine points.
The Mustangs host The King’s Academy (5-2) on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Boys basketball
Aptos 71, Sobrato 43 >> Senior Isaiah Ackerman scored 24 of his game-high 26 points in the first half, and the Mariners rolled in their consolation semifinal at the Bob Hagen Memorial at Gilroy High on Friday.
Aptos led 43-20 at the half and played their reserves for most of the second half.
Senior Ryan Solorio and junior Ernesto Ramos-Medina each scored eight points, and senior Nick Tovani chipped in with seven points.
Senior Owen Warmerdam had four points and six blocked shots for the Mariners (2-2), who lost their tournament opener 69-60 to Westmont on Thursday.
Aptos plays Hollister (1-1) in the consolation championship on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Soquel 83, Seaside 41 >> D’Rell Hopkins and Tyler Harway each scored 11 points, and the Knights won their consolation semifinal at the Luis and Lucille Scattini Memorial Tournament at Palma High in Salinas on Friday.
Nico Ramirez and Steely Deans each scored 10 points for the Knights (3-4), who lost their tournament opener 56-43 to Independence of San Jose.
Soquel plays Enterprise (5-2) of Redding for the consolation championship on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Santa Cruz 69, Mills, 47 >> Junior forward DeMarco Hunter had 28 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks, and the Cardinals won their opener at the 48th annual Joe Schram Holiday Classic at Saint Francis High in Mountain View on Friday.
Senior guard Mosiah Cumberbatch scored 18 points for the Cardinals (2-4), and sophomore guard LJ Legan scored 16 points.
The Cardinals face Sunnyvale’s The King’s Academy (5-0) at Saint Francis on Saturday at 1 p.m.
At Watsonville 74, Foothill 62 >> The Wildcatz prevailed in their Watsonville Tournament game Friday night.
Junior Matt Poulsen scored 22 points for the Cougars (5-2) of Palo Cedro.
The Wildcatz (3-2) play at Mission San Jose (1-3) in Fremont on Friday at 7 p.m.
Women’s basketball
At Cabrillo 73, Lassen 51 >> Freshman guard Sydney Chesnut made six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points to help the Seahawks win their Aaron Short Memorial Tournament opener in Aptos on Friday.
The Seahawks exploded for 31 points in the second quarter to carry a 46-19 lead into the half.
Sophomore guard Jade Crum scored 12 points for the Seahawks (6-3), who climbed to No. 15 in the CCCWBCA North Region poll earlier this week. Freshmen forwards Gabriella Dela Cruz and Gabby Brooks each scored 10 points.
Freshman guard Nadi Velazquez scored 14 points for the Cougars (6-4), and freshman guard/forward Sequoia Harjo scored 10 points.
Cabrillo hosts Rio Honda (5-7) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Girls soccer
At St. Francis 2, Santa Catalina 1 >> First-year player Peyton Orradre scored twice, and the Sharks rallied from an early deficit to win their nonleague match Friday.
Orradre, a junior who previously competed for the Sharks’ basketball team, scored the equalizer in the 25th minute and the game winner in the 60th minute.
Elin Cardenas Hernandez assisted on the decisive goal.
Freshman Ali Peterson anchored the defense and goalie Madison Silva made six saves.
St. Francis (1-0-1) hosts Stevenson (2-0-1) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Harbor at Tom Moore Invitational >> Harbor won a pair of matches Friday to open play at the Tom Moore Invitational at Stevenson School in Pebble Beach.
Jair Martinez had three goals and two assists as the Pirates (3-1-1) beat Laguna Creek 8-1 in their opener. Alex Aparicio and Andres Reyes each had a goal and an assist. Phinn Hilton, Danny Garcia, and Moi Hernandez also scored goals.
Javi Calles had three assists, and Cesar Onesto also assisted on a goal.
Goalie Damian Escalante had three saves and teammate Calvin Schwartz had two saves.
Hernandez had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over San Jose’s Cindy Avila in the Pirates’ second match.
Diego Cortes and Martinez also scored, Calles and Reyes had assists, and Escalante made three saves.
The Pirates face Stockton’s Edison (1-3-2) in Pebble Beach on Saturday at 9 a.m.
At Valley Christian 4, Scotts Valley 0 >> Junior goalie Seamus Drees made 15 saves in the Falcons’ nonleague loss Friday.
The Warriors (3-2-1) scored in the 10th and 32nd minutes in the first half, and tacked on a pair of late goals five minutes apart in the second half.
Scotts Valley (0-2-2) hosts Pacific Collegiate (0-1-1) on Jan. 8 at 3:30 p.m.
At Alisal 3, Pajaro Valley 0 >> Goalie Luis Tellez made six saves in the short-handed Grizzlies’ nonleague loss Friday.
Izaak Ocampo missed a clear shot on goal, and the Grizzlies (0-3-1) were shut out for third straight match.
Andres Perez exited with a knee injury against the Trojans. He’s expected to miss three weeks.
Pajaro Valley is without Kristoff Garcia for four more weeks, and Raymond Mata is expected to return in a couple of weeks. Both are out with knee injuries.
The Grizzlies play at North Salinas (2-1-1) on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
