No disciplinary action from Big Ten for skirmish after Michigan-MSU game

The Big Ten announced it will take no disciplinary action in connection with the postgame altercation on the field at the end of the Michigan-Michigan State football game.

Michigan State athletic director Alan Haller had asked the Big Ten to review what happened as time ran out in Michigan’s 24-17 win on Saturday. Michigan tight end Colston Loveland and Michigan State defensive end Anthony Jones pushed and shoved to start the skirmish.

The Big Ten said video showed players from both sides on the ground and surrounded by so many individuals that both players were completely obscured from view.

Iowa QB McNamara in the concussion protocol; Sullivan will start Saturday

IOWA CITY, Iowa>> Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz has announced quarterback Cade McNamara is in the concussion protocol and will not play Saturday against Wisconsin. Brendan Sullivan replaced McNamara in the second half against Northwestern last week and will take over as the starter.

It was unclear when McNamara was injured. Ferentz said McNamara took a hard shot in the second quarter. McNamara also was on the receiving end of a roughing-the-passer penalty late in the first quarter.

Ferentz said he was hopeful McNamara would be available for the Nov. 8 game at UCLA.

UFC champ Jones agrees to anger management classes for assault charge

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.>> UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has agreed to attend anger management classes to resolve a pair of misdemeanor charges stemming from a drug test at his home in which he was accused of being hostile.

A bench trial had been set to begin Tuesday before a New Mexico judge. But attorneys announced at the start of the virtual proceeding that an agreement had been reached. The case will be dismissed as along as Jones completes four hours of anger management classes and follows all laws over the next 90 days.

Jones has said that the allegations were baseless and that he never threatened anyone.

19-year-old Italian skier dies after crash in training

TURIN, Italy >> Promising Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi has died from her injuries after a crash in training in northern Italy. She was 19.

The International Ski and Snowboard Federation announced her death on Tuesday. The world ski body known as FIS says “we are deeply saddened by the passing of Matilde Lorenzi.” She crashed in training on Monday.

FIS says “Matilde was tragically lost following a fall during a training session on the Grawand G1 slope in Val Senales.”

She competed at the junior world championships last season, placing sixth in downhill and eighth in super-G.

Top-ranked Sinner pulls out of Paris Masters with virus

PARIS>> Top-seeded Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the Paris Masters, citing a virus. The Italian player, who is guaranteed to finish the year as No. 1, said in a message relayed by organizers that he is not able to play.

Sinner is the second high-profile player to pull out of the final Masters 1000 event of the year following seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.
