Dennis P. Dyrud was born to Reverend Clemmence E. and Mae (Brye) Dyrud on October 16, 1948, in Everett, Washington. In 1966 he graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School, Fargo, North Dakota. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1967-1970. In 1968, while serving in the infantry, he was awarded the Purple Heart for a chest wound received during hostile fire in South Vietnam. Dennis then continued his education and graduated in 1973 from Augsburg College, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Dennis retired in Marina, CA, on the beautiful Monterey Bay, in 2003 with over 32 years of distinguished Federal service. During his last twenty years he was a senior Logistician with the U. S. Army Materiel Command where his duty assignments included: Fort Ord, CA; Fort Drum, NY; Garlstedt and Vilseck, West Germany.

In his retirement he was active in the National Active and Retired Federal Employee Association (NARFE). He served for years as the President of Monterey, CA, NARFE Chapter 579 where he was a delegate to many State and National Conventions. He also enjoyed traveling extensively and his highlight was returning to visit a peaceful Vietnam in2005.

Dennis is survived by his brother David and sister-in-law Marilyn Dyrud of Klamath Falls, OR; nephews Andrew and Jonathan Dyrud, and niece Claire Zurheide and great grandson Logan Zurheide. He was preceded in death by his parents Mae and Clemmence, and brother Paul.

Interment will be at Miller Cemetery on Saturday September 28, 2024 at 10 am.
