Cade Cunningham had 33 points and 12 rebounds, Dennis Schroder made the tiebreaking 3-pointer with 55 seconds left, and the visiting Detroit Pistons snapped their NBA-record, 15-game postseason losing streak by beating the New York Knicks 100-94 on Monday night in Game 2 of their playoff series.

The Pistons, who hadn’t even been to the postseason since 2019, recovered after the Knicks erased a 15-point deficit to earn their first playoff victory since Game 4 of the 2008 Eastern Conference finals against Boston. The Celtics won the final two games of that series and the Pistons were then swept in 2009, 2016 and 2019 before dropping Game 1 at Madison Square Garden.

Now they are back in the win column, all tied in the series and will host Game 3 on Thursday.

Schroder, who wasn’t even on the Pistons until a trade in February, nailed the 3-pointer after the Knicks had used a 16-4 run to tie it at 94 on Josh Hart’s dunk. He finished with 20 points off the bench.

The Pistons were in good shape to win Game 1 with an eight-point lead after three quarters, before the Knicks used a 21-0 run in the fourth to win 123-112. Detroit built another eight-point advantage after three Monday, and this time made the big plays after another Knicks rally.

Jalen Brunson scored 37 points for the No. 3-seeded Knicks, but Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby were each limited to 10 after both finished with 23 points in the opener.

Hawks fire Fields, promote Saleh: Landry Fields was fired as general manager of the Atlanta Hawks after three seasons, with the team missing the playoffs in the last two of those.

The Hawks promoted Onsi Saleh to the GM role, while also announcing that they have opened a search for a president of basketball operations. Atlanta went 40-42 this season, then missed the playoffs after going 0-2 in the play-in tournament.

Fields, a former star at Stanford, led the decision-making a year ago when Atlanta had the No. 1 pick and selected Zaccharie Risacher, who is a finalist for rookie of the year this season. The Hawks have an All-Star guard in Trae Young and another budding star in Dyson Daniels, a finalist for both defensive player of the year and most improved player this season.

Saleh joined the Hawks a year after three seasons with the Warriors, his time there ending with him holding the roles of vice president of basketball strategy and team counsel. He spent five years before joining the Warriors with the San Antonio Spurs and was the team’s director of strategy and process.

The Hawks haven’t won a playoff series since making it to the Eastern Conference finals in 2021.

Kings hire GM: The Sacramento Kings finalized the deal to hire general manager Scott Perry in hopes that he can get the team back to the playoffs after losing in the play-in tournament the past two years.

The Kings reached an agreement with Perry last week just hours after parting with Monte McNair .

Perry will oversee the basketball operations department and report directly to owner Vivek Ranadive.

One of the first decisions will be on the status of interim coach Doug Christie, who went 27-24 after taking over when Mike Brown was fired.
