Police from Orland Park and other agencies were called Sunday night to disperse an estimated crowd of 200 juveniles at Sky Zone Trampoline Park.

There were no injuries and one juvenile was cited for battery, according to Orland Cmdr. Scott Lefko.

Officers from Mokena, Palos Heights, Tinley Park and Cook and Will county sheriff’s police responded, mainly to try to ensure the crowd was sent home safely, Lefko said Tuesday.

He said police were called just before 7:30 p.m., and that officers “were met with a large group of juveniles” inside and outside the business.

Surveillance video from inside the business shows “mass pandemonium,” including juveniles running out of Sky Zone and families trying to gather up their kids, Lefko said.

He said it appeared a fight broke out between two juveniles, but said there was no indication of a larger, orchestrated fight or teen takeover.

Police were mainly there to “disperse the crowd in the calmest and most orderly fashion possible,” Lefko said.

“You have a lot of juveniles who either Ubered there or were dropped off,” he said. “As soon as police show up everybody runs, and you are trying to corral them but there will never be enough officers to do that.”

Lefko said he did not have an exact number of how many juveniles were inside or outside Sky Zone but estimated it was about 200. He said he did not know how many police officers responded.

He said the business was not issued a citation.

Sky Zone sued Orland Park after police were called to a large disturbance, which resulted in its business license being revoked.

Orland Park had pulled Sky Zone’s business license after a September 2020 report of a fight that drew a large police response.

Under the settlement of the lawsuit, in December 2021, Sky Zone, just east of Orland Square mall, is required to close at 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and have private security working those days from 7 p.m. to close.

Sky Zone had previously agreed to those conditions to remain open while it appealed the business license revocation.

Sky Zone was cited for reckless conduct and a fire code occupancy violation following the 2021 incident. A 911 call was made to Orland Park police about a fight, resulting in some 50 police officers from Orland Park and surrounding departments responding.

It was not clear whether a fight had actually taken place inside that time, and three youths were cited under village ordinance for disorderly conduct, according to police.
