New York police and Adult Protective Services are investigating Wendy Williams’ guardianship after performing a wellness check at her adult care facility in Manhattan on Monday that ended with her hospitalization.
Police responded to the assisted living facility around 11:16 a.m. They determined that Williams did not need any help but remained at the scene as EMTs arrived and Williams threw notes out a window to the assembled media.
The city’s Adult Protective Services is also looking into the circumstances of Williams’ stay at the facility, where she is reportedly in a memory unit and barred from leaving, according to TMZ.
She was transported to Lenox Hill Hospital for an independent cognitive examination around 2 p.m., the gossip site reported.
Williams’ guardian said last November that the former talk show host was “permanently incapacitated” due to her dementia diagnosis.
ABC reported Sunday that Williams will give a phone interview on “The View” this week.
Gladys Knight falls ill backstage, cancels gig
It has been an absolutely brutal year for the R&B world, so the last thing that anyone needs is for anything to happen to the legendary Gladys Knight.
Knight’s name was in the headlines over the weekend, and at first glance those stories might have been a little scary.
The 80-year-old reportedly had to cancel her scheduled Saturday show in Jacksonville, Florida, at the last minute due to an issue backstage.
“Ms. Knight and another member of her staff were taken ill backstage, very suddenly and at the last minute, which necessitated the sudden cancellation of the show,” Florida Theatre President Numa Saisselin told News4JAX.
Saisselin told the station that Jacksonville Fire Rescue attended to Knight for her issues.
There was some promising news too.
“She was smiling and in good spirits when they left the building,” Saisselin said.
TMZ said a rep for Knight said she came down with the flu just before the show.
