Danny Malouf, a Woodstock Republican, has announced he will be a candidate in the 2020 Republican primary for Democratic U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood’s 14th Congressional District seat.
Malouf is a human resources manager with Harting USA, according to LinkedIn, and joins two other Republicans who have said they plan on challenging Underwood, a Naperville resident in her first term.
Malouf bills himself as the “liberty candidate” in a video on his campaign website. The video begins and ends with the Grateful Dead song “Throwing Stones.”
Malouf’s attire in the video changes from a T-shirt that says “Make American Grateful Again” to a shirt that reads “Tu ne cede malis” (Latin for “do not give in to evil”) and finally a suit resembling the American flag.
“Choose liberty, and choose Danny in 2020,” Malouf says in the video.
Malouf filed his statement of candidacy as a Republican on Feb. 19 with the Federal Election Commission.
Underwood unseated four-term Republican U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren in November and took office as the youngest-ever black woman in Congress in January.
Republican state Sen. Jim Oberweis, of Sugar Grove, earlier this month also said he plans to launch a campaign to challenge Underwood in 2020.
Matt Quigley, a Naperville Republican, announced on the same day Underwood was sworn into Congress that he also plans to run for her seat.
Illinois’ 14th Congressional District covers a portion of Naperville, stretches south of the city limits and north to the Wisconsin border, and covers parts of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will counties.
