WATSONVILLE >> The California Highway Patrol’s Santa Cruz Unit reported Sunday morning that a sinkhole had formed on southbound Highway 1 near the Buena Vista Drive exit, causing the closure of the left lane.
Southbound traffic was reduced to one lane about a half mile north of Watsonville. The CHP advised drivers to expect delays.
In a social media post at 8 a.m., the CHP posted a photo of the sinkhole, and stated there is no estimated time for the reopening of the lane. In a subsequent post, the Highway Patrol stated that the lane would remain closed through the night.
