No citations given for ‘ICE OUT’ sign on First Flatiron

No one was cited after the words “ICE OUT” were briefly displayed on Boulder’s First Flatiron on Thursday morning.

Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers first heard about the sign about 7:23 a.m., according to Boulder Fire-Rescue spokesperson Jamie Barker. The white letters, made of fabric or mesh, were taken down by 7:51 a.m., she said, adding that the same people who put the sign up took it down.

The First Flatiron was not impacted, so no one was cited, according to Sam Clusman, an Open Space spokesperson.

Open Space rangers were headed to the sign when it was taken down, Barker said. Six people were involved in putting the sign up, she said. Four of the six were contacted by Open Space rangers.

Trail closed at bridge after hole forms

A section of the Boulder Canyon Trail that runs along Colorado 119 between Boulder and Nederland is closed until further notice due to a hole that formed under the abutment of a bridge.

The trail is closed at the bridge a quarter-mile east of Fourmile Canyon Drive, according to a Boulder County Parks and Open Space news release.

A detour is not available.

The bridge will remain closed while county staff develop a repair plan, secure necessary permits and complete construction. The project will be complex, as the area lies along Boulder Creek and Colorado 119, also known as Boulder Canyon Drive. Boulder also has water utility infrastructure that runs under the bridge, according to the release.

The county said they are working to restore access as soon as it can be done safely, but they do not have a timeline for when the popular hiking and biking trail route might reopen.

LONGMONT

Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash in west Longmont on Thursday afternoon.

About 2:54 p.m., Longmont police were dispatched to Airport Road and Staghorn Drive, just south of Nelson Road, for a report that a motorcycle and a sedan had crashed, according to Robin Ericson, a city spokesperson.

The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to Ericson. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, she said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Police believe the sedan made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle.
