Charles Gerald "Jerry" Haynes, age 83, of Longmont, Colorado passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home on Monday, March 24, 2025.

Born in Norton, Kansas, Jerry was the eldest child of Charles Howard Haynes and Charlotte Eileen Haynes (née Huson). He spent his early years on their small farm in western Kansas. Amidst the joys and challenges of farm life, he developed a deep appreciation for hard work and resilience. During World War II, Jerry lived with his mother while his father served in the Army Motor Pool in England. His sister Leslie lived with the Huson family in Wichita. His education began in the one-room schoolhouse at Bow Creek.

In 1954, the family of six moved to Longmont, Colorado, where they owned the Trailways Motel. Jerry had fond memories of swimming in its pool. In 1956, they relocated to Boulder, settling into a newly built home. Jerry graduated from Boulder High School in 1959. He began his career in 1962 at the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant.

Spanning over four decades, he worked in Health Physics and Radiation Monitoring until his retirement in 2005. Jerry was a lifelong and avid auto enthusiast, competing in drag races with his Corvette, driving a Porsche 911S Targa, and later enjoying his Mazda MX-5 convertible. He also loved cycling and spending time outdoors.

He met his first wife, Genie Hill, at the Timber Tavern restaurant in Boulder during the early 1960s. They were married from 1965 - 1978. During his time at Rocky Flats, he met his second wife Joyce Haynes. They married in 1992 and later divorced after 28 yrs of marriage.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Lynea and son David, and their families. His brother, Steven Haynes, and his wife, Debra; and his nephews, Charlie Perkins and Dean Moreland; his niece Lori Connor (née Moreland). He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Charlotte Haynes, as well as his sisters, Leslie Sharon Moreland and Brenda Kay Perkins.

Jerry was a devoted father, a cherished grandfather and uncle.

He will be remembered for his kindness, his love of adventure, and the joy he brought to those around him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date and updates can be received by registering on Howe Mortuary's website.

In honor of his memory donations may be made to Westview Presbyterian Church of Longmont - Round Pantry in memory of Jerry Haynes or to the Mayo Clinic in honor of Jerry Haynes.

Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
