The Angels claimed first baseman Ryan Noda on waivers from the A’s and acquired infielder Scott Kingery from the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations Friday. Noda is added to the 40-man roster, while Kingery is on a minor league deal.

Noda, 28, is a left-handed hitter with a career .212 average and .713 OPS in 164 games over the last two seasons. In 2023, he hit 16 homers with a .364 on-base percentage and a .770 OPS in 495 plate appearances. He spent most of 2024 in Triple-A, where he had an .877 playing in the hitter-friendly environment in Las Vegas. Noda plays mostly at first base, but he’s also played 11 big league games in the outfield.

Kingery, 30, has a .229 average and .667 OPS in 325 games over parts of five seasons with the Phillies. His best season was 2019, when he hit 19 homers with a .788 OPS in 126 games. He spent all of 2024 in Triple-A, with 25 homers and an .804 OPS. Kingery has played his most games at shortstop, but he’s also played second and third and all three outfield positions.

Zack Minasian and was promoted to general manager of the San Francisco Giants, joining the Angels’ Perry Minasian to make the brothers both big league GMs.

Zack Minasian, 41, had been the Giants’ vice president of pro scouting since 2022, three years after he joined San Francisco following 14 years with the Milwaukee Brewers.

WNBA

The Indiana Fever hired Stephanie White as coach, putting her in charge of a team led by WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark.

White spent the past two seasons as head coach of the Connecticut Sun before parting ways with the team earlier this week.

White is a former star at Purdue, who served on the Fever coaching staff from 2011-16, including as head coach for the final two of those seasons. The Fever won the WNBA title in 2012 with White on the staff.

White replaces Christie Sides, who led the Fever to a 20-20 record last season and the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2016.

NFL

Garrett Wilson made a dazzling one-handed 26-yard go-ahead touchdown catch early in the fourth quarter and the New York Jets snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Houston Texans 21-13 on Thursday night.

Aaron Rodgers completed 22 of 32 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns, including another earlier one-handed catch by Wilson and a 37-yard throw to recently acquired Davante Adams, and the Jets (3-6) won for the first time in four games under interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.

C.J. Stroud was 11 of 30 for 191 yards for the Texans (6-3), who played without injured receivers Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins.

NBA

Devin Booker scored 40 points, Kevin Durant added 18, and Phoenix rallied from a 21-point deficit to beat the Clippers 125-119 late on Thursday night.

Booker made a corner 3-pointer to put Phoenix ahead 108-105 with 5:15 remaining as the Suns scored 73 points in the second half to take their second win in eight days at the Clippers’ new arena.

Booker and Durant got going in the third to get the Suns back in it, combining for 20 points.

James Harden had 25 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists, and became the 20th player in NBA history to reach 26,000 points in his career.

NHL

Sidney Crosby scored his second goal of the game 2:35 into overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Ducks 2-1 late on Thursday night to end a six-game losing streak.

Crosby found himself in alone on Lukas Dostal and hit the brakes before roofing the puck over the Ducks’ goalie for the 93rd winning goal of his career.

Alex Nedeljkovic made 22 saves for Pittsburgh, which outshot the Ducks 46-23. Dostal stopped 44 shots to keep the Ducks in it, but it still wasn’t enough.

Alex Killorn picked up his second goal of the season for the Ducks, who ended a four-game East Coast trip with a 1-2-1 mark.

The Ducks led going into the third before Crosby tied it with a redirect off a point shot from Matt Grzelcyk 1:47 into the final period.

GOLF

Hana Wakimoto shot a 4-under 68 to maintain her two-stroke lead after the second round of the LPGA’s Toto Japan Classic.

TENNIS

Alexander Zverev advanced to the semifinals of the Paris Masters by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-4 and knocking the Greek player out of contention for the ATP Finals.

Zverev, the French Open runner-up, next faces 2022 champion Holger Rune for a shot at the title.

Rune outlasted Alex de Minaur 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 in a 2 1/2-hour baseline fight.

Grigor Dimitrov’s hopes of making the ATP Finals were set back after the 2023 finalist was upset by 2018 champion Karen Khachanov 6-2, 6-3 for the first time. Khachanov lost their four previous matches.

Dimitrov was 10th in the race to the top-eight ATP Finals in Turin.
