Medicaid is a lifeline
In Michigan, Medicaid is a lifeline, covering 23 percent of the population and three in eight working-age adults with disabilities across the state. Long term care services, including care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD), are at risk in southeast Michigan due to proposed Medicaid reductions under consideration in Washington, D.C.
Adults with ID/DD often face complex and compounding medical challenges, including non- ambulatory status, seizure disorders, behavioral health issues, mental illness and visual or hearing impairments. These serious conditions require a high level of comprehensive care — that for almost half of the adult ID/DD population in Michigan — is made possible solely through the Medicaid program.
Intermediate care facilities (ICFs) offer 24-hour supervision, activities and skill-building programs to boost residents’ autonomy. For families, these facilities represent not only specialized support but peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are in safe and capable hands. However, the ICF benefit in Medicaid is optional, meaning that it could be the first to be impacted if federal resources are cut. This would leave vulnerable populations across Southeast Michigan and the country as a whole without options.
I strongly urge Michigan elected officials to reject any proposal that would reduce Medicaid funding. We need to keep individuals with ID/DD safe and ensure that their essential care services remain accessible.

‘Detached’ responses from James
I am wondering if this is happening to anyone else from Michigan’s 10th Congressional District?
Every time I write an email to Congressman John James, I get the same non-direct robo answer.
“I understand that not everyone agrees on every issue, and I respect diversity of opinions that make our democracy strong”
There is never any direct answer. Just talking points. I find that very insulting. Informed voters know better. My question this last time was about holding a military/birthday parade and whether it was a necessary expenditure?
The answer was just what I quoted. Is anyone else getting this type of detached treatment?
