In the latest development in court proceedings over a recent alleged murder in Glendale, an involved Arcata woman pleaded not guilty to charges levied upon her by the District Attorney’s office on Thursday. The preliminary examination for two suspects was set for August.
According to court records, Danielle Durand entered a not guilty plea for a robbery charge and the denial of a special enhancement for the involvement of a firearm Thursday. Duenn Willis, who was charged earlier this week in the fatal shooting and robbery, also pleaded not guilty this week.
The victim is Joshua Lee McCollister, a 37-year-old Fort Bragg man.The district attorney filed charges against the two on Tuesday. The preliminary examination is set for Aug. 28.
A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release Monday noted the victim, McCollister, was found near Glendale Drive after a reported shooting on July 8. He was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound and succumbed to his injuries en route to the hospital.
Questions remain around what led up to the shooting, though the sheriff’s office stated in a press release, “preliminary findings suggest the shooting stemmed from a dispute over a civil matter involving two individuals.”
The pair were arrested in the Arcata area July 11 and have been held at the Humboldt County jail since.
Supervised release was denied Thursday for Willis.
