Pittsburg water polo player Yesenia Moffett is the Bay Area News Group’s girls high school athlete of the week and Serra water polo player Colin Wright is the boys athlete of the week for Sept. 16-21.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Moffett had 55.98% of the vote to finish ahead of James Logan volleyball player McKenzie Anderson.

In the boys poll, Wright had 32.55% of the votes, finishing ahead of Arroyo football player Joseph Estes.

Moffett stood out in a game against Freedom, scoring seven goals and nabbing eight steals. At one point she was able to steal the ball and make a goal all in one play.

Wright, a sophomore, scored six goals, dished out three assists and had two steals in Serra’s 13-8 win over St. Ignatius. Serra began this week 9-3-2.
