LAS LOMAS >> A fatal car crash in Las Lomas resulted in the death of a 40-year-old Watsonville resident.
At approximately 5:29 a.m. Friday morning, Salomon Garcia Lobato, 46, of Watsonville was driving eastbound on Hall Road approaching Las Lomas Drive in a white Toyota pickup truck. The pedestrian, whose identity will not be released until next of kin is contacted, ran across the intersection Lobato was approaching. It’s under investigation why the pedestrian crossed the intersection at that moment, according to a news release.
While running toward the south shoulder of Hall Road, the pedestrian made contact with the driver side of the Toyota and fell to the ground in the eastbound lane of Hall Road. Lobato pulled over to the side of the road at this time.
While the pedestrian was on the ground, Santa Cruz resident William Makel, 78, was driving eastbound on Hall Road in a gray Ford Sedan. Makel was unable to avoid a crash with the pedestrian. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on scene.
Makel and Lobato both remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to the release. Neither of the drivers received any injuries as a result of the crash.The California Highway Patrol is asking the public to report any information regarding this incident by calling the CHP Monterey Area office at (831) 770-8000 or emailing MontereyCHPTips@chp.ca.gov.
