The two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are acquiring three-time All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans, replenishing a position group that has been ravaged by injuries, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the teams have not announced the trade.

The Chiefs are sending a conditional fifth-round pick to the Titans, according to NFL Network, while Tennessee is taking on some of Hopkins’ salary. That was an important point for the Chiefs, who have very little salary cap space.

The Chiefs lost wide receiver Marquise Brown, one of their top free-agent signings, to shoulder surgery prior to the start of the season. Second-year star Rashee Rice sustained a season-ending knee injury last month against the Chargers, and veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster is out after hurting his hamstring in last Sunday’s win over the 49ers.

• Bryce Young is back in as Carolina’s starting quarterback.

Panthers coach Dave Caneles said Young would start Sunday against the Denver Broncos after Andy Dalton was diagnosed with a sprained thumb on his right throwing hand sustained during a car crash on Tuesday in Charlotte.

• Jayden Daniels missed Washington Commanders practice Wednesday because of a rib injury, casting further doubt on his availability to play this weekend against Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears in what’s supposed to be a matchup of the top two quarterbacks in the 2024 draft.

Coach Dan Quinn called Daniels “week to week” after the No. 2 pick and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner was injured in a 40-7 rout of Carolina that got the Commanders to 5-2 this season. Daniels took a big hit and went down awkwardly at the end of his first run, left early in the second quarter and was replaced by veteran Marcus Mariota.

• The Buccaneers placed wide receiver Chris Godwin, who leads the NFL in receptions, on injured reserve with an ankle injury that will require surgery.

The Bucs announced the move Wednesday, when punter Trenton Gill and wide receiver Ryan Miller were also signed from the practice squad to the active roster.

Godwin dislocated his left ankle during the final minute of Monday night’s 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. He likely will miss the remainder of the season, although coach Todd Bowles said there’s a chance the four-time, 1,000-yard receiver could return during the playoffs if Tampa Bay plays deep into January.

Godwin leads the NFL with 50 receptions.

• Days after Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon injury, coach Kevin Stefanski announced Wednesday that Jameis Winston will start Sunday against Baltimore and that he is handing over play-calling duties to coordinator Ken Dorsey.

• The Titans made their second trade Wednesday by swapping linebackers with Seattle, sending Ernest Jones to the Seahawks for linebacker Jerome Baker.

That ends a very short stay in Tennessee for Jones after the Los Angeles Rams traded him in late August. He is in the final year of his rookie contract as a third-round draft pick in 2021 out of South Carolina.
