Lee Carl Dimmitt, 94, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, in San Jose, California. He was born on October 4, 1930, in San Jose, California to William and Henrina Dimmitt. Lee was a lifelong enthusiast of flying airplanes. He started in the Navy and trained to become a pilot where he patrolled the coast of California looking for Russian submarines. He graduated flight school and was promoted to flight instructor and trained pilots for fighting in the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service, he joined Pan American Airlines and eventually became a captain. After retiring he joined a flying club and enjoyed flying his delighted family and friends around in his Cessna Citation airplane.
As a Toastmaster, Lee excelled in public speaking. He became an area governor and opened many clubs, but anyone will tell you his expertise was making people laugh. His speeches won him many awards and accolades. From serious to funny, he was a master storyteller.
Joining the Masons was an important part of his life. He became a 32nd degree Mason and was a dedicated Master at the Mountain View lodge and was a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasons in San Jose, California.
He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. He felt that it was a foundation for teaching everything important in life, a love of God and his fellow man and how to live a moral upstanding life and bestowed the gift of knowing God to his three children.
He is survived by his wife Connie Dimmitt, his daughter Linda Stone (Jim Sigafoose), his grandson Adam Stone, his granddaughter Gina DeMarco (Mitch), his great-grandson Nicholas Hernandez, his great-granddaughter Amelia DeMarco, and many other nieces and nephews. Lee has two children who predeceased him, Janet Benedetti (Rick) and Bruce Dimmitt. He is also predeceased by his wife Marilyn Dimmitt.
A visitation for Lee will be held Friday, May 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA 95125. The final viewing is on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., The funeral service is on Saturday, May 31, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to Noon, 300 Curtner Ave, San Jose, CA 95125 with a committal service and reception following at the same place.
