Peggy Ann Sisson born December 12, 1945, in DuBois, Pennsylvania died on Saturday afternoon, April 19 at the age of 79. Peggy was a Pasadena resident since childhood and was well known in the community because of her active professional and volunteer involvement. She is survived by her husband, Steve (married 60 years), and two sons, Steve Jr. (daughter-in-law Amy Sisson, step granddaughter Bailey Cunningham) and Scott (daughter-in-law Shelley Clark), living in Southern California.
She served for 15 years as Pasadena’s Child Care Coordinator, representing the city – on city, county, state and federal-level issues related to childcare. This includes three years serving as Staff to the Senor Commission. Her professional involvement included participation in the Partnership for Children, Youth & Families, SPA3 Quality Child Care Committee, First Five LA, LA County Child Care Planning Committee, LAUP, LA County Child Care Roundtable, the CCFS Head Start Policy Council, as well as local and national Associations for the Education of Young Children. Pasadena Weekly’s Best City Employee of the Year 2005.
Peggy’s 50 years as a volunteer began as a founder of the Southern California Foundation for SIDS, in memory of her son, Phillip. From the 1970’s, when she became active in her children’s schools’ PTAs, she expanded her volunteer involvement to include community organizations such as Junior Women’s Club, Little League, Zonta, the Pasadena Commission on the Status of Women, and Child Care Information Service. She was also involved with the Olympic Volunteer & Employment Center at East LA City College and volunteered as an Usher at the Equestrian Events at Santa Anita during the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. She was a member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association for 40 years.
She received her early education in Pasadena schools.
As an adult, she earned her BS in Social Science at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona and in May of 2008, she proudly earned her MA in Human Development at Pacific Oaks College.
