Another Metro Detroit speedster tore up the NFL Combine’s physical testing at Lucas Oil Stadium on Friday night.
One day after Detroit’s Derrick Harmon (Oregon) ran a blazing-fast 40-time, West Bloomfield’s Maxwell Hairston, a Kentucky cornerback, recorded the fastest time (4.28 seconds) of any defensive back in Indianapolis. He also recorded a 39.5-inch vertical (second among all cornerbacks) and a 10-feet, 9-inch broad jump (third). Hairston’s unofficial time was 4.29 seconds, which was later changed to 4.28.
Hairston, a three-star recruit coming out of West Bloomfield, was a team captain for the Wildcats in 2024 and was named Second-Team All-SEC. Over his 32-game college career, which included 20 starts, Hairston recorded 89 tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, 10 pass breakups, six interceptions, three forced fumbles. His three career pick-sixes tied a school record.
Hairston is projected as a Day 2 pick, a draft slot that could see him return to play for his hometown Detroit Lions, should general manager Brad Holmes continue adding to the secondary in this year’s draft.
