Seven more massage therapists have accused Ravens kicker Justin Tucker of sexually inappropriate conduct, the Baltimore Banner reported Sunday.
The news website says a total of 16 massage therapists from eight Baltimore-area spas have now shared accounts with the Banner. All said Tucker’s actions occurred between 2012 and 2016.
The Banner first reported allegations against Tucker late last month, saying it had spoken with six massage therapists who recounted firsthand experiences with him. The number of accusers has more than doubled since.
Tucker said after the initial allegations emerged that he has never received any complaints from a massage therapist or been told he was not welcome at a spa or other place of business.
The NFL has said it will look into the matter.
MAVS ASSISTANT REPORTEDLY ARRESTED
The Mavericks said Sunday they have suspended an employee they didn’t identify amid a report that assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Dallas television station WFAA cited multiple anonymous law enforcement sources in reporting that Dallas police responded to a call in the predawn hours Saturday. The sources said the 56-year-old Armstrong and the victim were arguing when he allegedly hit the woman with a gun and threatened to shoot her.
Dallas police didn’t immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking details of the incident. It wasn’t clear whether Armstrong has an attorney who could comment on his behalf. WFAA reported that Armstrong has posted bond since being booked Saturday morning.
The Mavericks said in a statement provided to the AP that they were aware of the incident and gathering information. The NBA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
“The employee has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings,” the team said. “This matter is currently under review by the appropriate legal authorities. Due to this fact, we will allow the legal process to run its course and we will refrain from further comment while proceedings are ongoing.”
Armstrong spent two seasons with the Mavericks late in his 14-year playing career and was a backup point guard on the 2005-06 team that reached the NBA Finals, losing to Miami. He is in his 10th full season as a Dallas assistant.
UCONN SNAPS S.CAROLINA STREAK
Azzi Fudd scored 28 points and No. 7 UConn ended No. 4 South Carolina’s 71-game home winning streak with an 87-58 victory Sunday.
Sarah Strong added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Huskies (24-3), who had lost their past four to the Gamecocks. Paige Bueckers totaled 12 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds as UConn took control late in the opening quarter and was up by 22 points by halftime.
Uncharacteristically, defending champion South Carolina could not respond and lost for the first time at home since North Carolina State beat the Gamecocks, 54-46, on Dec. 3, 2020. That ended the fourth-longest home winning streak ever in women’s Division I basketball history.
Fudd followed up a career-best 34-point performance in a win over St. John’s this Wednesday by torching the Gamecocks. She hit six of UConn’s 13 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter to close off any South Carolina hope of a comeback.
Joyce Edwards scored 17 points to lead South Carolina (23-3).
l UCLA, South Carolina, Texas and Notre Dame would be the No.1 seeds in the women’s NCAA Tournament if it began now.
The NCAA basketball selection committee on Sunday did its first reveal of the teams in line for the top 16 seeds.
Just outside the top four teams were Southern California and LSU. The Trojans handed UCLA its first loss of the season on Thursday.
The top 16 seeds in the 68-team field will host first- and second-round games, with the regional rounds being played at two neutral sites for the third straight year.
Spokane, Washington, will host half of the Sweet 16 and Birmingham, Alabama, will host the other eight teams.
