This week’s story about the imminent closure of Petaluma’s Batteries Plus sparked an outpouring of warm memories and expressions of dismay. With a liquidation sale now underway, and with the store — owned by Christian Kurasek and operated for the last 10 years along with his parents Julie Kurasek and Ken Bean — set to close within the next few weeks, many readers took to the Argus-Courier’s Facebook page to share their condolences.
Below is a small sampling of those comments.
I once had to replace a light bulb, they were the only place in town with that particular bulb in stock. —Justin
Oh no! I always bought my old phone batteries there, my old lamp bulbs and other things. Also, they were so kind when my brother was sick and confused. He had taken the bus over to that side of town, and was not where I was supposed to meet him. Got a call from a woman who worked there, that he was safe and she would keep him there till I got there. She was so understanding. I am forever in her debt. I started buying whatever I could there. I am so sad they are going out of business. —Nan
A restaurant should take over that whole building since there’s a drive through there from the bank. —Dan
I was just gonna go there and see if I can get a new iPad battery because one of my friends said that they had them and are very nice people. —Tiffany
Very sad about this. Got all my vintage lamp bulbs there with help of the very knowledgeable staff. Not sure the young man’s name that worked the counter, but he was such a help! Thank you guys, I will be forever missing your shop tremendously —Mari
Big loss to Petaluma. Great customer service. Can change a battery in a key fob in 30 seconds. They will be missed! —Mary
Excellent customer service and store. Julie is delightful to work with with little or large issues. I don’t think there is anything similar in Petaluma. Best to them in the future. They will be missed. —Phyllis
This is so sad. I get all my batteries here. —Elaine
No!!!!!! We go there for all our battery stuff. Bummed to hear this. —Kimberly
Noooo! I got car batteries through them. It was so great. Super bummed. —Kristen

TrumpNomics. —Derich
They always had what I needed. They replaced my car key batteries for cheap. But I always wondered how they managed to stay in business. Sad to see them go. —Ceci
Nooooo! —Lyndi
I got a smokin’ deal on a motorcycle battery the other day there, and the employees told me they were closing. I was sad. That place was cool. I guess it’s to Santa Rosa now if I need a special battery. —Neil
