


Redwood High grad Charles Veley struck out five batters through eight scoreless innings to pick up the win as College of Marin beat Laney, 8-0, in Kentfield on Tuesday. Veley (3-4) held the Eagles to four hits.
Adrian Ruiz hit a pair of two-run triples to spur the Mariners (14-8-1, 5-0 BVC), who did all their damage in the seventh and eighth innings. Caden Sta Maria had a pair of hits, including a double, and Logan Fiene also had two hits.
Prep softball
Chase Unger, Sam Singer, and Ana Flandermeyer drove in runs as Archie Williams picked up a 3-1 win against Marin Catholic on Wednesday.
Archie Williams (7-1, 2-0) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth on a sac bunt by Flandermeyer. MC pulled within 2-1 on an RBI double by Grace Berringer in the bottom of the inning. Archie Williams tacked on an insurance run on the sixth on a single by Singer.
Paige Murphy went the distance, allowing four hits and an earned run while striking out five. Murphy also had two hits. Her counterpart, Malliah Foster, allowed six hits, three earned runs and stuck out 12 in seven innings.
Prep baseball
Holden Cane was 2-for-2 and scored twice as the Branson School shut out San Domenico, 8-0, on Wednesday. Mo Jacoby doubled and drove in three runs for the Bulls. Four Branson pitchers combined for a no-hitter, and gave up just three walks, with 10 strikeouts.
• Stuart Hall scored the winning run in the top of the seventh to beat Terra Linda, 3-2, in a non-league contest on Wednesday, despite a solid outing from Trojans pitcher Nate Combrink, who went the distance. Combrink struck out two batters, walked none and held Stuart Hall to five hits. The Trojans (2-5) got hits from SiEon Davis, Hayden Biesiadecki, Kelley Fouts and Alex Rambo.
Boys golf
Low medalist Jack Hilleboe shot a 35 at StoneTree to lead the Branson School to a 207-234 victory over Terra Linda on Wednesday. Carl Smith shot a 38 for the Bulls.
Ryan Younkin and Evan Gutierrez tied at 46 to pace the Trojans.
• Noah Duncan’s 44 led San Marin to a 226-233 victory over rival Novato. The Hornets were paced by low medalist Jason Phelps, who shot a 42.
• Low medalist Dylan Siegel shot a 4-over 40 at Presidio Golf Club on Tuesday to lead Marin Academy to a 184-223 win over BCL West rival Drew. The Wildcats (4-0, 3-0 BCL) got solid outings from Charlie Wilhelm (45) and Drayson Jaffee (47).
Boys tennis
Archie Williams swept San Rafael, 6-0, on Wednesday. Fin Donnelley, Teo Donnelley, Porter Cook and Stuart Pratt won their singles matches for the Peregrine Falcons. Only two doubles matches were played.
• San Marin swept the five contested matches during Tuesday’s 6-1 victory over San Rafael. The teams split a pair of defaulted matches. San Marin’s top doubles team of Tomas Prada and Rory Pearce battled to a 6-0, 4-6, 10-4 win over Darragh Mulhern and Michael Matyurin.
Prep beach volleyball
San Domenico lost 3-0 to Cardinal Newman on Wednesday, despite strong efforts from Sahra Gordon and Luna Barnes, as well as Sasha Lyra Steven and Kealani Wesley. The Panthers are scheduled to face Windsor on Monday.
Boys lacrosse
Marin Catholic went over the hill for a 12-6 non-league victory over neighboring rival Marin Academy on Tuesday. Marin Catholic (7-1) is scheduled to open the Catholic Cup tournament against De La Salle (5-1) at St. Ignatius on Thursday. Marin Academy (4-4) is slated to host Stevenson (2-0) in a non-league matchup on Thursday.
• Terra Linda (2-4, 0-1 MCAL) is set to dive back into league play on Thursday against Novato after Tuesday’s 10-4 home loss to Berkeley. Novato (3-3, 3-0 MCAL) is coming off a 10-7 loss to host Rancho Cotate on Tuesday.
Girls lacrosse
Redwood (5-2, 3-1 MCAL), coming off Tuesday’s 12-4 loss to host Sacred Heart Prep, is scheduled to open league play on Thursday against Branson in Ross.
Boys volleyball
Lucas Anderson led Redwood to a 3-0 victory over Marin Catholic on Tuesday. In other MCAL matchups, San Rafael edged San Marin, 3-2, and Terra Linda beat Novato, 3-1.
Motor sports
Petaluma’s Tyler O’Hara will host and organize a MotoAmerica Mission Mini Cup Qualifier at Sonoma Raceway on July 19-20, as an opportunity for young riders to compete on a national stage — even if they don’t own a motorcycle.
The winners of this qualifier will earn a spot in the Mission Mini Cup National Final, taking place August 8-10 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. The event will also feature a Hawk Mazzotta Moto Camp, where riders of all skill levels can receive expert training from top racers, including former MotoGP star John Hopkins.
