The Colorado Avalanche signed restricted free agents Matthew Stienburg and Jason Polin on Friday to one-year contracts for the 2025-26 season, the team announced.
Stienburg was a third-round pick in the 2019 NHL draft.
He made his NHL debut and played eight games for the Avs this past season before getting sent back to the Colorado Eagles after being assessed a two-game suspension on Oct. 31. Stienburg, 24, was injured shortly after being demoted and missed the rest of the AHL regular season, but returned for three Calder Cup Playoff games.
Polin was an undrafted free agent out of Western Michigan in 2023. He made his NHL debut in 2023-24, and has appeared in nine NHL games over the past two seasons for the Avs. Polin, 26, had 11 goals and 19 points in 39 games for the Eagles last year.
Both players could compete for a spot on Colorado’s fourth line during training camp. The Avs could have at least one opening in the bottom six because of Logan O’Connor’s offseason hip surgery.
Preseason schedule
The Avs announced their preseason schedule on Friday afternoon, with the six-game set including two games apiece against Western Conference rivals Dallas, Utah and Vegas. The exhibition schedule starts with split-squad games against Utah on Sept. 21 in Denver, with one of the contests against the Mammoth at Ball Arena and the location of the other game yet to be revealed.
The Avs will host Dallas (Sept. 27) and Vegas (Sept. 30) at Ball Arena after that before closing out the preseason with games at Vegas (Oct. 1) and Dallas (Oct. 4).
All six games will be broadcast on Altitude Sports Radio (92.5 FM or 950 AM). Television broadcast information will be announced at a later date. Single-game tickets will be available for purchase when the 2025-26 regular-season schedule is announced later this summer.
