Kyan Evans’ 3-pointer with 52 seconds left broke a 64-64 tie, and Colorado State held on for a 69-64 victory at Fresno State on Saturday night.

After Evans’ tie-breaking shot, the Bulldogs missed a pair of free throws and the Rams made two of their own to seal the victory, their third in a row and the 13th straight in the series between the two teams.

With the win, the Rams also swept the season series from Fresno after defeating the Bulldogs in Fort Collins, 91-64, earlier this month. CSU improved to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the Mountain West Conference.

The Rams only led 33-31 at the beginning of the second half, and the final 20 minutes saw the teams trade runs while neither was able to pull away. Each team’s largest lead of the second half was five points.

Fresno State took a 64-62 lead on a pair of free throws with 2:41 remaining, but a dunk by Jaylen Crocker-Johnson tied the game at 64 to set up Evans’ winning shot.

Nique Clifford led the Rams with 24 points. He also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Crocker-Johnson added 11 points, and Jalen Lake 10.

The teams traded the lead for the first few minutes of the game until a layup by Clifford gave CSU an 14-13 lead, and the Rams never trailed again in the opening period.

With 3:52 left before halftime, the Rams took their largest lead of the first half at 32-23 on a 3-pointer by Bowen Born, but the Bulldogs made a run before the break.

Fresno State cut the CSU lead down to two with 1:26 remaining in the half on a three-point play by Elijah Price. That made it 33-31, and neither team scored again before halftime.

The Rams didn’t score in the final 2:23 of the first half, which allowed the Bulldogs to make their run and make it a one-possession game.

Clifford led CSU with 12 points and five rebounds in the first half.

CSU will be back in action Tuesday when the Rams host Air Force at Moby Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
