Temecula-area believers marked Good Friday with a 1-mile walk of reflection.

On Friday, Student Venture ministry organized the 38th annual Crosswalk, a tradition that includes several southwest Riverside County Christian churches.

It was among the many Good Friday events held across the Inland Empire to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ days before his resurrection on Easter Sunday.

In the trek through Temecula, participants carried wooden crosses to symbolize Jesus Christ’s suffering and sacrifice.

“The Crosswalk has been a powerful statement to the people of our communities that Jesus is alive and well and that he deeply loves them,” said Karen Sharp, the founder of the organization.

Those taking part began at the Reliance Church parking lot, walking through Old Town Temecula to Sam Hicks Monument Park.

The event ended with a praise and worship celebration in the park.

“The walk draws the body of Christ together in a special way,” Sharp said. “It’s like a giant family reunion.”
