While none of the the Macomb County area Division 5-6 programs matched their regular-season successes with a postseason trophy, there was still plenty of hardware to be had for successful seasons.

A dozen players from Division 5 or 6 schools, either in Macomb County, or just across its borders, earned honors on the 2024 Michigan Sports Writers Division 5-6 All-State football team, which was unveiled Wednesday.

Armada’s 10-win season, which featured a second-place finish in the Blue Water Area Conference and a D5 district title, earned junior running back Jackson Malburg and senior defensive back TJ Seiler spots on the team. Malburg ran for 1,575 yards and 23 scores, while Seiler had 1,418 all-purpose yards, 632 of them on returns, eight total touchdowns, and picked off seven passes on defense.Led by first-team quarterback Caleb Moore, Warren Michigan Collegiate won the Charter School Conference’s Gold Division, before losing to Marine City in the district semifinals.

Moore threw for 2,340 yards and 32 touchdowns, and ran for 703 more yards and 10 scores (all school records), adding 44 tackles, six interceptions and two defensive touchdowns on the other side of the ball.

Richmond’s Kolten Bartels was the first-team punter, while teammate Gaige Towner was honorable mention at linebacker. Ohio University-bound Bartels averaged 42.8 yards per punt, with six downed inside the 20, and only had two kickoffs that didn’t reach the end zone. Towner had 101 tackles, 13 for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one interception.

Winkler ran for 897 yards and 14 scores, caught 11 passes and two more TDs, and had 35 tackles and one for loss on defense, while Taylor helped pave the way to 2,719 team rushing yards and 40 TDs. Ferqueron had 108 tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and one interception.

After finishing second in the Macomb Area Conference Silver Division, the Marine City Mariners made a run all the way to the Division 6 semifinals, led by second-team defensive lineman Collin Gabler, second-team linebacker Chase Ramsey, honorable mention running back Paul Muscat and honorable mention defensive back Cooper Letson.
