A Broomfield man convicted of stalking and killing his wife in 2023 was sentenced Friday to life in prison without parole.
Daniel Krug, 44, was convicted of stalking and murdering his wife, Kristil Krug, who was found dead at their home in 2023. The trial began earlier this month, and the jury returned its verdict Thursday afternoon.
Friday afternoon in Broomfield County District Court, Judge Priscilla Loew sentenced Daniel Krug to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus an additional 91/2 years, which will run consecutively, according to the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
On the morning of Dec. 14, 2023, Kristil Krug returned home from dropping her children off for school when Daniel Krug ambushed her.
He hit her in the head multiple times with a blunt object before fatally stabbing her in the heart, according to a statement from the DA’s Office.
In the months leading up to the murder, Daniel Krug stalked his wife, sending threatening messages, according to authorities.
He carried out an “elaborate scheme” to act as a fictitious stalker, attempting to frame an ex-boyfriend of Kristil’s who lived in Utah, according to the DA’s Office.
“I would like the world and (Daniel Krug) to know you have destroyed so many lives with this senseless, selfish and cruel act,” Kristil Krug’s mother, Linda Grimsrud, said at the sentencing.
“(Her children) have to live their entire lives knowing and trying to reconcile that their father murdered their mother. You will never understand our suffering, but at least you will never be a free man — alone you will be.”
