INDONESIA >> Vallejo resident Mel Orpilla and Redding’s Kathleen Saxer traveled to Bali this summer on a trip that included all sorts of adventures, including a bike ride near the island’s rice fields.
TRAVEL TIPS >> “Bali is a very diverse island with beaches, volcanoes, bustling cities and small villages. You can see it all in a week,” Mel says.
CANADIAN ROCKIES >> San Jose residents Sasha, Uma and Murali Mantravadi went to the Canadian Rockies in September to visit Banff and Jasper National Parks. “There are two additional parks adjacent to these — Yoho National Park and Kootenay National Park — and there was not enough time in a week to visit (them) all,” Murali says. “We stayed in the town of Canmore, which is about a 10 minute drive from the southern entrance of Banff.”
TRAVEL TIPS >> “From May to September, you must have a shuttle reservation to visit Lake Louise and Lake Moraine in Banff and Lake O’Hara in Yoho National Park, and these fill up by early March, so it is important to make these bookings as soon as your travel is finalized. Bring good hiking boots. Don’t miss driving on Icefield Parkway, which is one of the most scenic drives in North America. Stop by the Columbia Icefield for a conducted tour of the Athabasca Glacier. The Discovery Pass, which allows you to visit all parks for a year, is a better deal than buying passes for individual parks every day.”
