Let’s unite people in quest for less cruel future

The September 4 commentary by Krista Kafer addressing Initiative 91 (prohibiting the hunting of mountain lions, lynx and bobcats) is, according to Kafer, “a slap in the face to rural populations.” Nothing could be further from the truth. The quest for a less cruel world is behind this initiative, not some imagined us versus them mentality. If Kafer prefers cruelty over compassion, she should say it, rather than hiding behind Colorado’s rural population and carelessly using their geographic location as a battering ram.

Hundreds of volunteers, including myself, canvassed both urban and rural areas to collect tens of thousands of signatures in hopes of ending this cruel practice. The voters I spoke to, some of whom were from rural Colorado, were more than happy to sign a petition and put this initiative to the voters. Regardless of zip code, the voters of Colorado live in a democracy, and on November 5, every registered voter will have the opportunity to vote either for or against Initiative 91. I have enough faith in all voters, regardless of their home addresses, to accept their decision. I wonder if Kafer will do the same, or will she and others use the will of the voters to drive a wedge between people. Personally, I am all for uniting people in a quest for a less cruel future, one free from the needless killing of wildlife.

Writing aspirations on cardboard signs

At a major intersection in Boulder, I saw a hand-lettered cardboard sign that was discarded. It stated, “Need Fat Rich Girlfriend.” I want to believe that it was successful.

Our democracy is better than a wannabe dictator

Maybe NRA members would do better with Common Sense Gun Reform versus a wannabe dictator.

In the upcoming weeks, this is what we the voters are going to hear over and over again.

First: One side will tell us “It will be dangerous and evil to have a liberal minority in the White House who wants to take away our rights of gun ownership.”

Fact Check: She is currently in the White House and wants Common Sense Gun Reform.

Second: The other side will tell us, “A Broken, Sick, Unstable, Convicted, Wannabe Dictator, Selfish, Old, Incoherent, Dishonest, Narcissist, Corrupt, Traitor, National Security Risk, Sexual-Predator, Tax Cheat, Verbally Abusive Billionaire Bully, cannot heal a nation.” Fact Check: He respects and admires dictators and he told us he will be a dictator on day one and he wants to do away with the U.S. Constitution, which includes the Second Amendment (the right to keep and bear arms).

Dictators and wannabe dictators around the world can not and will not allow gun ownership except for a chosen few for fear of being overthrown. FYI, no one will be a dictator for only a day.

Democracy is messy but isn’t it a million times better than having a dictator who we could never ever publicly disagree with about anything now or in the future, and if we do disagree with a dictator, they will hunt us down and punish us like Putin does to his opponents in Russia. Everyone needs to fear a wannabe dictator and his supporters who believe it’s okay to threaten and terrorize anyone who disagrees with them.

Camera should explain biased representation

On Sunday, Sept. 8, this paper published four photos of the former president, a convicted felon who is again indicted for crimes against our country. Crimes against all of us! And, only one photo of our current, law-abiding vice president. Every day your paper over-publicizes a liar and cheat, and under-represents our accomplished president of the Senate. Please explain your biased representation.
