A single victim was left with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in East Boston on Saturday night, Boston Police reported.
At about 10:43 p.m. Saturday, Boston cops observed gunfire around 3 Lewis Mall in East Boston, BPD stated Sunday.
At the scene, officers found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds, Boston Police said. The single victim — who was not identified as of Sunday — was taken by Boston EMS to a local hospital with “life-threatening injuries.”
A preliminary investigation led officers to identify a suspect believed to be involved in the incident and found them at the Maverick Square MBTA Station, BPD said. During the arrest and transport, the department noted, “several officers were assaulted” by the suspect. No injuries were reported.
The case is under active investigation by Boston Police Homicide Detectives.
Roxbury drug bust
Boston Police reported a 27-year-old arrested Friday after a search warrant allegedly turned up fentanyl, cocaine and other drugs.
Boston officers conducted “extensive mobile surveillance” on suspect Jose Irizarry-Estepan, of Roxbury, and found him entering a vehicle on Tremont Street near West Concord Street Friday.
The cops tracked the car toward Massachusetts Ave, where officers noted the vehicle had a “defective brake light and excessively tinted windows,” BPD said. Additional units were called, and officers conducted a traffic stop near Columbus Avenue and Heath Street.
“Officers approached the vehicle, identified themselves, and informed the operator and two passengers of the reasons for the stop,” BPD said. “Officers quickly recognized Irizarry-Estepan as the subject of their search warrant and issued exit orders to proceed with the investigation.”
During the search of Irizarry-Estepan, Boston Police said, officers found alleged items believed to be eight small bags of fentanyl, eight plastic bags of crack cocaine, two plastic bags of powder cocaine, and an aluminum foil bag with crack cocaine and marijuana.
The police said they also found an aluminum tray with loose marijuana in the vehicle’s center console. While later searching the other occupants of the vehicle, the officers allegedly found a prescription bottle on the second passenger containing a bag of crushed blue powder and seven brown capsule pills later identified as Hydromorphone, BPD said.
Irizarry-Estepan was arrested and faces four possession with intent to distribute charges. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
The second passengers will be summonsed to Roxbury District Court on a charge of Possession of a Class A Substance, and the vehicle driver was cited with a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for Defective Equipment (Brake Light), Excessive Window Tint, and Open Container of Marijuana.
ICE reports arrest
ICE reported the arrest of an allegedly illegally present Dominican national on charges of armed robbery in Massachusetts in March over the weekend.
“Emerson Esteban Arias-Polanco illegally entered the United States and apparently decided to commit an armed robbery while wearing a mask,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia Hyde.
Arias-Polanco, now 27, was arrested by Dedham Police Department on Nov. 30, 2023 on a charge of armed robbery using a mask, ICE said. On May 3, 2024, he was indicted on the charge before Norfolk County Superior Court.
ICE Boston lodged an immigration detainer with the Norfolk County House of Corrections against the suspect Jan. 5, 2025, ICE said. The agency said Arias-Polanco allegedly enter the U.S. illegally at an unknown date and time.
The Norfolk County House of Corrections then declined the detainer and released Arias-Polanco from custody. Hyde said it is “regrettable that the Norfolk County House of Corrections decided to ignore our immigration detainer.”
A team including ICE Boston, DEA New England and ATF Boston agents arrested Emerson Esteban Arias-Polanco, 27, in Boston on March 20.
