Senior Elizabeth McCuistion had 11 kills, nine coming on tips, and three service aces, and Monte Vista Christian School rallied for a 15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-9 nonleague win over Scotts Valley on Wednesday.

Junior Ella Batt had six tip kills for MVC (3-0). Presley Pastrell also served three aces, and Hailey Gomez, Nadia Oropeza, and Gia Johnson each had two aces.

“The girls relied on their training to get them the three-game sweep after the first two losses,” Mustangs coach Brittney Long said. “They decided they wanted to win and not let up.”

Junior outside hitter Hayden Smith had 20 kills for the Falcons (2-1). Junior middle blocker Harlan Hennager had 10 kills and three blocks.

Scotts Valley hosts Harker on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. MVC hosts North Salinas on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.

At Aptos 3, Hollister 0 >> Sophomore outside hitter Ella Dueck had 14 kills, and the Mariners earned a 25-16, 25-18, 25-18 sweep in nonleague action Wednesday.

Dueck hit .420, served six aces, and made two blocks. Freshman outside hitter Sienna Fozzati had six kills and 10 digs, and junior setter Isabella Magana had 13 assists.

Aptos (1-3) hosts Carmel (1-0) on Monday at 6 p.m.

At Los Gatos 3, Harbor 0 >> Senior outside hitter Maren O’Farrell had nine kills and two aces, but the Pirates opened their season with a 25-14, 25-23, 25-12 nonleague loss to fellow Central Coast Section power Tuesday.

Los Gatos (1-1) reached the CCS Division I final last season, and Harbor won the D-IV title.

Senior outside hitter Isla Johnson had seven kills for the Pirates. Senior setter Sandy Enriquez had 16 assists, and senior middle blocker Sabine Kemos and sophomore opposite Gianna Fanara each had four kills.

Harbor (0-1) next travels to Orange County to play in the Dave Mohs Tournament. On Friday at Newport Harbor, the Pirates play J Serra at 2 p.m. and Newport Harbor at 3 p.m.

At Soquel 31, Scotts Valley 6 >> Trinity Wilson, Harper Keet, Haily Betterman, and Siena Betterman scored touchdowns in the Knights’ win Wednesday.

Eliza Stevens and Katie Niizawa each passed for touchdowns.

Soquel (1-0) plays San Lorenzo Valley at Harbor High on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

King City 34, at Santa Cruz 0 >> Shyrah McDonald had four carries for 135 yards and three touchdowns in the Mustangs’ win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.

King City 25, at Santa Cruz 6 >> The Cardinals completed a 59-yard touchdown pass to avoid the shutout in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.

Girls tennis

Soquel 4, St. Francis 3 >> Kassidy Siebert won at No. 3 singles, and the Knights swept doubles action in their nonleague win Wednesday.

Soquel’s Claire Nordahl and Elsa Gellert won at No. 1 doubles, and the Knights won by default at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

Paula Reyes, Annie Edelmaier, and Emily Ritter earned singles wins for the Sharks.
