The girls soccer team from Prospect Ridge Academy has climbed to the top spot in the CHSAA Class 3A rankings after its 8-0 start to the spring season.
On Thursday, the Miners will travel to face No. 6 Peak to Peak, which has won six of its first seven games.
Below is a deeper look at that game and others that appear to offer intrigue to close the week.
Prospect Ridge Academy at Peak to Peak girls soccer, Thursday at 4 p.m.
Prospect Ridge Academy first-year coach Jeff Vigil, after coming over from Erie, has led the Miners (8-0) to their best start in program history.
PRA has scored 30 goals and allowed just 20 shots on net so far this spring, which has included wins against four current top-10 teams — 3A No. 10 Stargate School, 2A No. 2 Frontier Academy, No. 4 Forge Christian and No. 8 Loveland Classical. Senior Madison Skinner alone has outscored teams 10-1.
Peak to Peak (6-1), meanwhile, has wins over 4A No. 29 Centaurus and Frontier Academy as part of its best start since 2017, when it got all the way to the 3A title game before bowing out. The Pumas finished just 4-9-1 a season ago.
Erie at Broomfield baseball, Thursday at 4 p.m.
Amid a three-game winning streak, the 5A No. 6 Eagles get No. 15 Erie (9-4) next. The Tigers (9-4) also started the year 8-2 but have since lost two of three.
Broomfield, no stranger to big-hitting catchers (see Camden Ross, who hit .627 while leading the Eagles to the 5A title in 2022), has been led offensively early on this spring by senior catcher Brendan Fritch, who is hitting .563. Its pitching staff has been great, too, as its top two innings-getters Maverick Scarpella (14 2/3 IP) and Ethan Zufall (11 2/3 IP) each have an ERA under 2.
For Erie, junior Maddox Burnett has a 1.71 ERA over 28 2/3 innings pitched this spring, while senior Ronin Ward, the school’s starting quarterback in the fall, is hitting .455 with 18 RBIs.
Silver Creek at Longmont baseball, Thursday at 4 p.m.
The 4A No. 27 Raptors got their most impressive win of the season Tuesday, beating 5A No. 15 Erie 6-3 behind six strong innings from starter Noah Richardson.
The Trojans (7-3), in the meantime, got back into the win column after dropping both of their games last week. In a 7-3 win over Skyline, Tyson Hagen threw five strong innings to pick up his third win of the year.
Boulder at Broomfield girls soccer, Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Boulder beat MaxPreps’ No. 1 team in the state, Castle View, on Tuesday night. And though the Panthers were still second to the Sabercats in CHSAA’s 5A Selection and Seeding Index on Wednesday morning, that very well could change when the MaxPreps rankings (which makes up part of the ratio used to calculate CHSAA’s standings) are updated.
Broomfield (3-3-2) is just 22nd in CHSAA’s 5A standings. As history goes, though, it will likely finish much closer to the top. The Eagles tied No. 3 Ralston Valley 1-1 on Tuesday, the same team the Panthers played to a draw last week.
Broomfield is 11-0 against Boulder since 2013.
Erie at Lakewood boys lacrosse, Friday at 5 p.m. at Jefferson County Trailblazer Stadium
So much for a state title hangover for the Tigers (5-1), who have played well early on in 2025 despite graduating such stars as Liam Connors and Charlie O’Brien from last year’s 4A championship.
Now in 5A, they’re currently fourth in the rankings, with their lone loss coming in overtime to Kansas’ third-ranked team on MaxPreps, Blue Valley Southwest.
Lakewood (4-4), though just 19th in 5A’s rankings, has won two straight.
Fairview at Columbine boys lacrosse, Friday at 7 p.m. at Jefferson County Trailblazer Stadium
In the second part of a double bill at Trailblazer Stadium, the 5A No. 10 Knights will look to keep momentum after beating 4A No. 3 Dakota Ridge in overtime Monday night.
Hook Dancy had five goals in Monday’s win, giving him 15 on the season. That’s second on the team to Kai Modica’s 18.
Columbine, 13th in 5A, was a top-10 team before it started April with back-to-back losses to Erie and Dakota Ridge.
Mustang Invite for boys swimming, Friday and Saturday at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center
Many local teams will be at there this weekend, including 4A defending champ Silver Creek, Monarch, Broomfield, Legacy and Longmont.
Among them, Monarch’s Gavin Keogh has the state’s best mark of the season in the 200-yard individual medley (1 minute and 50.86 seconds). He’s currently second in the 200 freestyle (1:41.01), only behind Fairview’s Soren Koschmann (1:40.84), and fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.77).
His teammates Ethan DiFronzo and Tobin Howe also have state-title contending times, with DiFronzo atop the 50 freestyle (20.78) and the 100 freestyle (45.91 seconds) and Howe fourth in the 100 breaststroke (57.42). DiFronzo, Keogh and Howe make up part of the state’s second-fastest time in the 200 medley relay (1:34.26) and also are on the fifth-fastest 400 free relay.
Legacy’s Daisuke Nakashima, meanwhile, is second in the breaststroke (57.12) and is also part of the fourth-fastest 200 medley relay (1:35.93).
