The 2025-26 schedule will feature the first reunion with a former Pac-12 Conference rival for the Colorado men’s basketball team.
On Friday, national college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein posted the Buffaloes will face Stanford for a nonconference matchup in Phoenix in December, although a specific date has not been determined.
A source confirmed the matchup with BuffZone.
Stanford went 21-14 this past season with an 11-9 mark in its first season in the ACC. It was also the program’s first season under head coach Kyle Smith, formerly of Washington State.
The Cardinal reached the second round of the NIT before losing at home against Kent State. Stanford enjoyed a huge season from 7-foot-1 forward Maxime Raynaud, an honorable mention All-American selection, but his eligibility has expired.
The matchup against Stanford proved to be one of the more favorable ones for the Buffs during the program’s Pac-12 era, with CU posting a 17-4 mark against the Cardinal in 13 seasons as conference rivals.
Stanford won the teams’ first two Pac-12 matchups in the 2011-12 season, but CU won 17 of the next 19, including the last seven in a row. CU leads the all-time series 20-11.
With the Big 12 reverting back to an 18-game conference schedule, the Buffs will have 13 nonconference slots to fill. The Stanford matchup is the second confirmed nonconference date for 2025-26, along with a rivalry visit to Fort Collins to face Colorado State.
