It is with deep sorrow and profound grief that we share the loss of our beloved Jack, who lived with an energy and joy that touched everyone around him. Jack was a natural leader, a loyal protector, and a teammate who inspired those around him to be their best selves –both on and off the ice. His strengths were matched only by his kindness, and his smile, wit and humor lit up every room he entered. To know him was to love him. Jack’s commitment to those he loved was unshakeable.

He is survived by devoted parents Greg & Dawn Gunderson; loving fiancée Lauren Gydesen; and cherished siblings Grant (Grace & Logan), Gretchen, Blake (Kirsten & Savannah), and Grace Gunderson.

Jack is also survived by grandparents Dick & Dee Gunderson; along with a vibrant and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who adored him. Jack was preceded in death by maternal grandparents John and Leone Ertel, who are surely welcoming him with open arms and to the eternal care of the Lord. During his formative years, Jack was a skilled and passionate member of Mahtomedi Youth and High School hockey teams and proud graduate of St. Jude of the Lake School. After graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, Jack worked as an engineer and project manager at APi Group, where he was respected by his colleagues for his work ethic and dedication. Jack’s presence in the world made it feel a little more connected, joyful, and kind. He will be missed beyond measure by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jack’s honor to the MN Chapter of Cure SMA, Zephyr Hockey Booster Club or St. Jude of the Lake School.
