San Dimas girls basketball coach Gary Jackson talked about a relentless work ethic and internal drive when it came to senior Priscilla Romero, who excelled in three sports at San Dimas and was the Hacienda League most valuable player in basketball and volleyball.

Romero also medaled twice at the Hacienda League finals in track.

For her efforts, she has been named the 2024-25 San Gabriel Valley girls athlete of the year.

“She never coasted on natural ability,” Jackson said of Romero. “Whether it was early morning workouts, staying late to get extra reps or pushing teammates to raise their level, she set the tone. She approached every sport with the same mindset, to outwork everyone, stay humble and never settle.”

Romero, a four-year varsity player for the Saints’ basketball team, averaged 14.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 4.6 steals to lead her team to the Hacienda League title and an 18-9 overall record.

The 5-foot-10 Romero was like a guard in a center’s body. Her 392 assists are the second most in Saints history and her 499 rebounds rank eighth-best ever at the school.

Romero had seven double-doubles this season, two triple-doubles and nearly posted a quadruple-double in a 69-26 win over Los Altos. Romero scored 20 points to go with 15 rebounds, 10 assists and nine steals.

Romero was named MVP of the SGV all-star game.

Romero led the Saints volleyball team to an undefeated record in the Hacienda League. They finished as one of the area’s best teams with a 21-8 overall record. Romero, a four-year varsity player, was part of four league championships.

Romero was the Hacienda League MVP and led her team in kills and assists. She averaged 11 kills with 16 assists per match.

Romero showed her versatility on the track. She was one of the area’s best triple jumpers, finishing second at the Hacienda League finals with a jump of 36 feet, 8 1/2 inches. Due to an injury, she missed the CIF-SS prelims. A year earlier, Romero was sixth in the triple jump in the 2024 CIF-SS Division 3 finals.

Romero showed her speed in the 400 meters by finishing second at the Hacienda League finals in 1:01.72. She finished third at the league finals in the 4×400 relay and was on the fourth-place 4×100 relay squad.
