Michael was a fourth generation San Jose native and first born son of Vincent J. and Clara Cala. As ayoung child Michael showed an interest in music. He began taking piano lessons when he was 9 years old. He learned very quickly how toplay the organ as well. He began playing at his childhood church when he was 13 years old and had playing regularly since. From 1976 to 1980 Michael was astaff organist at Pizza and Pipes pizza parlor where he had many regular customers coming in just to hear him play. He was a graduate of the first graduating class of Piedmont Hills High School and was voted best dressed senior boy. Michael worked at Lam Research as an executive administrative assistant and was highly respected by his peers. He had been an active member of the San Jose Chapter of the American Guild of Organists for over 40 years having served as Dean, Sub-Dean twice for each. Michael enjoyed cooking and preparing gourmet meals for his family and friends. He especially loved his dogs. Michael passed suddenly and unexpectedly on Thanksgiving evening after spending the day with family. Michael is survived by his loving family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. ACelebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Willow Glen United Methodist Church, 1420 Newport Avenue, San Jose at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Michael's honor at an animal shelter of your choice.
