The ongoing spell of mild weather that has defined our winter season is expected to continue into Wednesday before being interrupted by a brief, but potent surge of polar air. Sunday’s official high of 41 and low of 32 produced the month’s fifth double-digit daily temperature surplus. Readings are forecast to average 10.5 degrees above normal through Wednesday. Much colder air arriving late Wednesday will keep daytime temps below freezing for the first time this season. Sub-freezing air will remain in place through Friday. Mild weather has kept snow totals abnormally low across most of the western Great Lakes. As of Sunday, there has been more than double the amount of snow in Amarillo, Texas than in Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay and Grand Rapids combined.
